A place for Australians and friends to share news from the other countries. Like all communities here, we discuss topics from the Australian perspective.

If you're looking for a global /c/worldnews instead, search for the many options on federated instances.

Rules
  1. Follow the aussie.zone rules
  2. We are not a generic World News clone. News must be relevant to Australians and our region. Obvious disregard will earn an warning and then a ban if continued. (If an article isn't from an Oceanian news outlet, and it doesn’t mention Australia, then it’s probably off-topic)
  3. News posts must include some body text explaining how the article is particularly relevant to the Australian perspective, rather than mere global news.
  4. Leave seppocentrism at the door. If you don't know what that means, you're not ready to post here yet.
  5. Avoid editorialising headlines. Opinions go in the comments, not the post.

Please don't report for rule #2.
While correct literally - this event is pure internal US stuff, there are clear parallels to local Australian losers doing similar marches. They feed off and inspire each other (because they can't find closer support). If this goes without comment, it signals that similar white racist stuff can go ahead in Australia without comment.

Surprised that ICE was willing to give so many people the day off.

I’m guessing they still got paid.

Apparently there was another group also marching on the day and it was an Anti-Trump group. I saw it briefly on a video and I don't have details.

the fact they cover their faces means racism is still socially unacceptable

and that they are frightened of social repercussions , frightened of legal repercussions

I doubt they have shame

It would be awful if these marches became normalised

and that they are frightened of social repercussions

And not without reason - Patriot Front unwittingly recruited an antifascist infiltrator to be their photographer, leading to at least five of them losing their jobs and trying to sue as a result: https://www.vice.com/en/article/white-nationalists-suing-undercover-activist-because-theyre-big-mad-they-were-identified/

That's why many fascist groups try to pretend to be regular old nationalists just to get an audience, as we saw with the NSN-organised March for Australia rallies.

I'll copy over the comment I made about Patriot Front over on the lemmy.world/c/pics thread: https://aussie.zone/post/34321108/23797324

Just bring along a gallon jug of water. Instant waterboarding of fascist idiots.

Bunch of Pussies. No wait I like those. Bunch of Pansies. No they're a pretty flower. I masturbate so "wankers" is out.

Sad cowardly imbeciles. Phew got there. As much as I'm basically a pacifist, whenever I see this kind of group my first thought is a machine gun and a hail of bullets mowing them down. Problem solved perhaps, I dunno.

This is the most schizophrenic news article...
