Superdock can't boot PlayStation games

Doesn't have any documentation. Only a single youtube video.

Why is this even PS1 shaped if it's just a MiSTer???

Am I the crazy one here? Should I have not expected it to be a drop-in replacement for my aging PSone?

Modern Vintage Gamer did a video about this recently.

The MiSTer platform is still DIY even when packaged like the SS One. This isn’t going to be a problem for some, but for those of you expecting a game console out of this, I’m afraid that you’re going to be disappointed.

That said, it is still possible to add on some really great software that does polish the experience a lot. There was a recent graphical UI released for everyone, should work on the SS One as well. You’ll have to check the MiSTer forum for details on all this and do the light setup work required. It’s worth the effort, but I do understand if that’s not for you.

I agree. I ordered mine the day preorders went live. Waited all the time for it to arrive and was underwhelmed as well. No info on when the cool interface will be available. I asked to split my SuperDock order, assuming it wouldn't take much longer, and I STILL don't have it. I think my SS1 arrived in February.

Also, my SD card got randomly corrupted somehow and the SS1 just wouldn't boot. I grabbed a different SD card and flashed it. The instructions for this are not great - documentation is poor in general. They're probably focusing on mass production instead of software dev, but the lack of regular (and meaningful) updates makes this purchase hard to recommend. Hopefully they keep working on it and it gets better.

Edit: Also, they need to pick a platform. I only use Lemmy but for some reason I need to check YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and Discord to maybe find a post about what's going on. Then there are also the email newsletter and shipping dashboard on their website.

Maybe your lucky, the delay may give time for some things to be smoothed out.

Well, there's your problem. Best of luck though.

Mine is en route, but seeing the videos and early reviews, I think I'll leave mine unopened for a bit and give them more time to create an interface and get the rest of the software done.

I agree, it's disappointing, but I am still cutting them some slack since it's still a very affordable and nice-looking MISTer box, and I do think they're acting in good faith but just in over their heads (with overoptimistic time lines).

I was most disappointed to see the flimsy Superdock drive, however, since they took so much time and that's a design flaw that won't get better without a hardware rev.

I had a little difficulty getting started, and having to use 2 sets of controllers definitely is a WTF. I guess once I get in game it’s fine but it really stops me from using it a lot.
