Except not at all. Tons of people stayed within reach of that wire and sat on the couch, in the kitchen, on a bed just chatting away. Yea definitely better than doom scrolling but "no telephone" was absolutely a punishment for teens in the past, similar to no xbox would be these days.
Stop Tech

Yeah humans were more free without the phone
My grandfather founded a business. He also took diuretics. As a result, he spent a lot of time in the restroom.
He also had a house built to his specifications. One of those specifications was a bathroom with a phone jack in it so he could conduct business while, according to my mother, peeing for an hour and a half. (He died two months after I was born so I cannot confirm or deny this claim.)
The phone in the picture was the same model as the one plugged into that jack.
You mean that nobody ever needed to cancel plans because they needed to stay close to the phone in case someone might call them?
The problem isn’t the wire.
Very true. It was somewhat better with the wire, but much better still without the phone!
Cell phones have been around for thirty years. It's time to let it go.
just get something like this
https://www.yealink.com/en/product-detail/ip-phone-t74lte
you can still receive SMS on the phone, send/receive calls but it locks the service back to a non portable device... well unless you want to drag around battery backups.
literally insert your SIM card, and throw your cell away.
Great! But how do I convince everyone else to use this?
