Extra.

“Can I just say fuck AI, fuck AI, fuck AI?” the comedian, actor, and rotating host of The Daily Show asked in his keynote speech during the Class Day celebration on Wednesday. The crowd at Tercentenary Theatre, made up of the graduating Class of 2026 and their friends and families, answered him with a roar of approval.

Whatever your chosen profession is, please don’t let AI rob you of the fun part of it.

Onward with the Butlerian Jihad!

[–] localhost001@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Except in that story, humanity rolled back to feudalism with “great houses” of rich families in charge. I’d like to aim for more of a Star Trek future or something maybe.

See graduation speakers, it's not that hard now, is it?

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 43 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

At this point, grads and undergrads only hope is to work their asses off developing anti-AI tech that blocks scraping, poisons data sets, and exploits unsophisticated bots to turn on their masters. 😈

It’s no Butlerian Jihad but it’s a start.

Or we could take the direct approach and start burning down datacenters. That's probably easier. And cheaper.

[–] DevDave@piefed.social 6 points 4 hours ago

no need to burn them down, just focus on the chillers. if they use evaporative coolers a water balloon partially filled with oil and soap will fuck that entire system.

also better to cripple then destroy as they get a full insurance payout where just drastically degrading facility performance is harder to prove the monetary value.

Mods, get this person a TRUE, stat.

I wouldn't be unhappy if he took over the daily show, but I would prefer Desi.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 16 points 9 hours ago

Josh, tho. Dude kills it every single time and is so damn likable.

The current rotation is killer. We won't appreciate this golden age until it sucks again (sorry Trevor).

I think Josh Johnson is the best choice, to be honest - my only issue with him is that he might be too young.

Regardless, I think the best choice would have been Roy Wood Jr. but that ship has long since sailed.

The dude is 36. The same age as Jon when he took over.

Josh is the perfect example of "black don't crack"

I was hoping for Roy Wood Jr. I was sad when he left.

[–] derin@lemmy.beru.co 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Same. But, it's important to remember he specifically left because he was passed over for the host position.

Basically said something to the effect of "if there's nothing to work towards I'd rather not be here in anymore" which I completely understand and respect.

Edit: Here's a source for my above statement. Relevant section:

The reason: Since he hasn't been offered the job as permanent host of the show, Wood wants some time to figure out his next act.

[–] harmbugler@piefed.social 14 points 15 hours ago

Desi's great! The multiple host approach seems to be working out pretty well, so maybe they'll just keep it that way.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 26 points 21 hours ago

I like him. I listened to him on Marc Maron, which is always neat because you get to know a bit more of the real person instead of the character he plays. Obviously, those people aren't totally divorced. But his real self is a lot more cerebral than the stage version.

I wonder how many of those Haaaavard kids will go to support the next genocide or nam?

Notable Haaaavard grads:

  • Ted Cruz
  • Ted Kaczynski
  • Henry Kissinger
  • Jeffery Skilling
  • John Silas Reed
  • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Martin Shkreli
  • Ron DeSantis
  • Tom Cotton
  • Steve Bannon

This is a short list generated by a search.

I don't give two fucks about the opinions of havaaasrd grads unless it's tied to an actual academic with a cause.

You’re conflating Harvard Graduate (Law & Business School) programs alum with undergrads.
