Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

It's hilarious to think Elon could run anything efficiently.

[–] MerrySkeptic@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

DOGE. You've gotta be kidding me

[–] admin@lemmy.haley.io 39 points 1 year ago

It’s the stupidest fucking timeline

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I am not going to look, but I bet the crypto coin rose in value over this too.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I know people really in to crypto and it sounds like it absolutely did

You know, the sad thing is that it's probably a good idea to trim some programs-- just not put two of the dumbest rich guys in charge.

Before election season even started, I recall a discussion on NPR mentioning that to balance the budget and bring down the deficit, something politically toxic would be required, be it cutting social security or military or dramatically raising taxes.

Too bad this version is probably cutting good stuff to pay for tax cuts for rich (and failing that, passing those cuts anyway)

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's going to be the irs, epa, fda, etc. Things that are chronically underfunded and provide tangible value but which also annoy rich fucks.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

It would be hilarious if they were so incompetent that they forget to not fuck with the Military Industrial Complex.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

IRS, EPA, FDA, OSHA, probably the FBI, the DoL, DoE, DoEd...

[–] hedgehogging_the_bed@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That would be the job the Congress's Government Accountability Office. Having 2 totally seperate and independent orgs in charge of government efficiency is peak Trump logic.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I would assume Trump knows very little about the different offices, so that tracks. That said, Musks thing probably has very little to do with accountability, lol. They'll fire competent people and break stuff, just like with X--- no need to look at what good they do!

Why does a Department of Efficiency need 2 guys to run it?

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Because to a nazi, inefficiency = efficiency.

Just like how trickle down economics, the literal exact opposite of a rising tide lifting all boats, is "a rising tide lifts all boats".

The truth isnt republican-safe until it's upside down.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

So now he'll have 3 full time jobs?

Man you can't get ahead in this economy

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Vivek does all the work and Elon will take all the credit.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

And nothing gets done because this project exists solely to enrich 2 men

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The guy who caused Twitter to lose 85% of its value and become a fascist hate filled Russian propaganda machine?

What could possibly go wrong?

[–] theOneTrueSpoon@feddit.uk 5 points 1 year ago

He simply eliminated excess profits to make it more efficient

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Rapist president selects a billionaire sex offender for position. (Epstein would have been a made man if he had just made it to the Biff future timeline.)

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago

Lol actually biff timeline 💀

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That sounds a lot like a milk monitor job to me.

Give the dumb dumb a nothing department with no power just to keep him out of trouble.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think he's going to just go into other agencies and fuck shit up by changing their processes. There's going to be a lot of broken shit all over the place in like a year or so.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That’s surprisingly optimistic. I give it 2 months.

And I only give it that long. Because musk won’t know how to navigate government bureaucracy.

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Hear me out. They can just run those departments over Twitter.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 5 points 1 year ago

The US gonna find out what a grade A moron elon is

[–] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago
