Political prisoner, mathematician, and anarchist Azat Miftakhov has described torture he says he was subjected to after arriving at the IK-18 “Polar Owl” prison colony in the Arctic settlement of Kharp in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. He says he was beaten on the heels with a wooden hammer, threatened with sexual assault and being dipped into sewage, and tortured with electric shocks.
