The Trump administration was preparing Friday for a fresh round of military strikes against Iran, according to sources with direct knowledge of the planning, even as diplomacy continued.

Some members of the U.S. military and intelligence community canceled their plans for the Memorial Day weekend in anticipation of possible strikes, several sources said.

Defense and intelligence officials began updating recall rosters for U.S. installations overseas as tranches of troops stationed in the Middle East rotate out of theater, part of an effort to reduce the American military footprint in the region amid concern about possible Iranian retaliation.

We really have no clue what we're doing.

"The President always maintains all options at all times, and it is the job of the Pentagon to be ready to execute any decision the Commander-in-Chief could make," Kelly said.

That's a nice way to say Trump doesn't have a clue, but if he says jump they'll jump.

We created the IRGC , taught them how to torture because the British needed help with oil because Iran wanted to nationalize the oil. We need to liberate the people not bomb them.

The US would've done the most to liberate them by doing nothing.

Continued military strikes. Don't buy into Trump's "we gave it a different name so this is a different war" bullshit.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago

yeah going over the allowable days is just the latest impeachable offense.

Thanks for reminding me to delete that app from my phone, not that the New York Times is much of an alternative to CBS these days…

Imagine they do the exact same thing as last time

It has started like that, why would it be different today...

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Well the dementia ridden pedo has already forgotten about that so this is all a great new strategy.

Makes sense, it's a day that ends with Y

Unpopular opinion. I talked to an Iranian colleague with family in Iran and he said the people are very supportive of the US strike. Said usually it’s 1 army death for 1000 civilians and with the strikes it is finally 1000 army guys for 1 civ dearh. An interesting take that is not portrayed in western media.

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don’t think most people would be surprised by this.

However, it in no way justifies what the dumbass American government is doing. And, it’s not the reason for doing it. Neither the Americans or Israelis give a damn about Iranians.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

The one thing that absolutely does not matter to anyone during a war: people.

Okay I was pretty upset about $2,000,000,000 of my tax dollars being spent per day on this war that we have no business fighting, but after hearing that your Iranian colleague's family is supportive because it's killing 1000 army guys with only one civ dearh, I'm totally on board now.

I am not trying to convince you. I just share what I think is an interesting point of view. How many of you talked to an Iranian ? Also those stats are just an Io obvious exaggeration (that he used).

1,190 had been killed, including 435 military members. During 2024-25 protests, >30.000 civilians were killed . > 50.000 imprisoned.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do not care about what Iranians have to say about my tax dollars bruh

[–] claimsou@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago

I get that.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

what happened to 1 for 1000?

[–] claimsou@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s a way of speaking he used and I reused it. An hyperbole.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

ah. yeah. hyperbole is not usually the most persuasive form of argument.

[–] claimsou@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ok.Then. It is 1/2,5 during war and 10000/1 during protest. Hope it clarifies.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean Im not the most confident in your numbers at this point. Especially since your now bringing in ones you just said where hyperbole to clarify what it might be.

[–] claimsou@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

That’s fine. I am not trying to convince anyone. I only share a conversation I found interesting.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/5/20/us-and-israel-planned-to-install-ahmadinejad-as-iranian-leader-nyt-says

It was reported by NYT that Trump, Hegseth and Netanyahu's plan for regime change was to install former Iranian President Ahmadinejad, someone with views largely aligned with the group currently in power... so it follows to me that the US-Israeli-plant Shah that many Iranians were calling for was not even part of the US' regime change playbook. The plan reportedly fell apart after the US-Israeli jailbreak plan was to blow up Ahmadinejad's house, injuring him in the process.

Not to mention, bombing a school full of children surely saved many civilian lives?

[–] claimsou@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I am certainly not pretending Trump is clever. I just share his pov which I found very interesting.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Ahmedinejad is also a holocust denier

[–] BC_viper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The Iranian government needs to burn to the ground and be wiped from the face of the planet. We have no room on this world for them.

But the trump-epstein war was the absolute worst way to go about it. And its yet another war that's going to go on forever because Iran is no where near beat. All its doing is making everything else worse.

Most world governments deserve to be burned to crispy bacon level. Which includes trumpet dumpet and his croneys.
