Not saying i don't like seeing this post, but i have to say i'm a bit surprised a post that doesn't really fit in this comm also got 3-5x more upvotes than the stuff usually posted here.

The object was made with some shitty $0 clay, so, close enough.

Thats a hell of a 1st attempt!

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 hours ago

Aimed to duplicate a cup of eternal youth, ends up making an equally awesome bag of holding.

I love that museum! But only the part with the ancient sculptures, not the creepy life sized dioramas.

[–] ArchsageRamases@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Looks about the same 😅

This one makes me so happy! https://dia.org/collection/dog/41200 The people of colima loved their little dog friends more than two thousand years ago

Never thought to recreate. But I would love a little post card print of doggo

[–] alternategait@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I have several pictures of nearly identical derpy dogs taken at various museums. It looks a lot like my dog-in-law.

YES! My dog in law looks like the ceramic ones too. Through a series of events, dog in law came to live with us. He’s a good friend. That dog figurine reminds me he comes from a long line of good friends.

I found this guy in a museum in Liverpool, but lack the motivation and clay to recreate him

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 17 hours ago

I love his little face

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I've seen this guy in the original Mulan.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 12 hours ago

The only Mulan, LBH. 🥲

[–] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 7 points 19 hours ago

That would make Keith Brymer Jones cry. "It's just beautiful... it's your best work so far... honestly..." (incoherent sobbing).

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 3 points 20 hours ago

I can't unsee the Mater Bater [NSFW?] in his little face

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 13 points 18 hours ago

Looks good, except for the teeth over the lips part.

You can get one in Mexico City museum of anthropology.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 16 points 23 hours ago

Seriously though, if their gift shop doesn’t have a replica coffee mug, they are missing out.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

Could probably get one right in the museum too if I can run fast enough

Possibly this guy

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

"How could ancient man have possibly possessed the technology to create such a masterpiece?"

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

and that's how you steal from mexico city museum of anthropology under everyone's nose... 😆

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I do wonder, if you swapped these, how long would it take people to notice.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 12 hours ago

It's not The Louvre, though...

[–] belunos@lemmus.org 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I support this level of fuck-it-otry

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

"fuck-it-otry"?

Maybe -ot and it'll flow better without that extra syllable?

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 5 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Nice job ~~op~~ swag 900, but the teeth are supposed to stick behind the upper lip.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Stuff it with paper or something until it dries, to keep the form?

Wait, they did. And it still fell together?

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago

I'm betting the original clay has more particulate to fortify tensile strength and stabilize vertical reach, whereas the facsimile is "$2 clay" and largely polymer-thickened mud. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is this really a story about Intellectual Property rights? Did Cory Doctorow consult!?

Also I need the file. To reprint the monster, bring me the file dammit

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 12 hours ago

Micro$haft's free 3D Builder can help you whip that up in a couple hours, tops. 🖖🏼
