Hello, this is Jihoon Kim, Director of Project Moon.
This notice is meant as an apology, as well as an explanation regarding the Mirror World separation issue in the Identity Story for Blade of the House of Spiders Ryōshū.
Allow me to begin by saying that, in the initial design stage, the story of Season Highlight Identity for Ryōshū was set in the same Mirror World as the other House of Spiders Nursefather and Apprentice Identities.
Internal discussions have been ongoing about whether we should completely separate the two Mirror Worlds and develop their stories independently. During this process, communication between the implementation team and the scenario team was not made clear enough.
In the concluding stage, as I was writing the flavor text, I had decided to group Blade of the House of Spiders Ryōshū and the other Nursefather and Apprentice Identities into the same World. This was conveyed to the scenario team, but not to the implementation team. As a result, the Mirror Worlds grouping was recognized as a bug, and a hotfix was applied to separate the Mirror Worlds in the Identity Stories:
- Highlight Identity of Ryōshū and the other House of Spiders Identities were initially set to be in the same World
- During the early part of Chapter 9, while designing and developing Highlight Ryōshū, a brief discussion took place regarding the feasibility of making her story part of a different World from that of the other House of Spiders Identities
- With the release of House of Spiders Nursefather and Apprentice Identities, I naturally came to think that Highlight Ryōshū’s Identity Story should be set in the same world. The Identity Story and the flavor texts, then, were written with that consideration in mind.
- The process described in Point no. 3 happened gradually, and it was not decisively shared with the implementation team
- Following today's Scheduled Update, the implementation team saw that the Mirror Worlds of Highlight Ryōshū and the other House of Spiders Identities had been grouped together, and corrected it through a subsequent hotfix
Two issues occurred through this series of events, and we plan to fix them.
- First - Information was not aligned across teams during the design and integration process between the Highlight Identity's Story and the other Identity Stories
- Second - It is simply that I should have confirmed and approved important plot-related elements.
The company and teams have grown in scale since their founding, and so has the scope-and-division of tasks. As the director, it is my duty to properly recognize which parts I need to check or confirm through the end, and which parts are to be entrusted to the teams. I regret to say that my failure to do so has led to the current issue.
Words couldn't describe how sorry I am that, due to this issue, users who had been closely following the tragic or unexpected plots of the Sinners across their myriad Mirror Worlds were made to feel as though an engaging plot element had been abruptly discarded.
Both the teams and I will seriously reflect on the two issues mentioned above and pay closer attention so that they do not happen again.
I am truly sorry that this issue occurred on what should have been a fun and exciting release day for Ryōshū's Highlight Identity.
We will continue to be mindful so that the plot and setting of the universe-building can be better coordinated to make the game and story experience more immersive. We will also further reinforce our communication system.
