If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

From Black Hills Raptor Center

Rosie the Northern Saw-whet Owl is mostly prim and proper, but sometimes she's caught double fisting her meals.

A girl's gotta get in her protein.

In all seriousness, Rosie's trainer and other volunteers have been keeping a close eye on Rosie's weight to make sure she's adapting well to her new home. Eating well is a great sign!

This pic has a little more graphic content than I'd normally share, but this little owl is just too cute! Unedited pic in the comments if you want to see those grabby feet doing their thing.

Uncensored title pic (mouse chunk warning)

The cuteness looks more like madness in this version.

The different pupil sizes really does it for me. Craaaaazy eyes!

It’s cool. You can show her eating the mouse or whatever it is.

I didn't want to spoil anyone's breakfast or what not. If it's in one piece, I think that's a bit different, but some people just scrolling by may not want to see it. The owl's face is just too cute, and that's something everyone can enjoy. For those of us ready to accept all the aspects of raptors, we've still got the full image.

I appreciate you showing both, gore isn't for me but I'm glad those who aren't bothered by it get to see the original image as well.

Exactly. I have to do some pretty funky stuff in caring for animals, and some of it still makes me a bit squeamish. There's plenty of things that are natural behavior that I don't want to see! 😜

I'm glad you still got to enjoy this cute little owl.

Love the censored font. 👍👍

I at least wanted to grab a cool censor bar since I figured some people would give me the eye for covering it up to begin with. Cool owl deserves a cool sticker.
