"IN 16 CARTS"

Maybe the original controller's case will work? But probably not that great. I hope they release a case for the new one.

"We can't name it Steam Controller 2. People would be confused"

I really wish marketing departments would switch to better cocaine, sometimes

Well if they called it Steam Controller 2 what would they call the next one?

[–] savvywolf@pawb.social 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Steam Controller One.

Still have no idea why Microsoft did that.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

"New 3DS" is still the worst name, tbf

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

New Super Mario Bros made sense for a short while, but is destined to cause nerd-fights for decades to come.

[–] Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 day ago

Not worse than Wii U!

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not really, the New 3DS came after the 3DS but still shared the library

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

How will you refer to it if a followup gets released? Or you sell an old used one? Make sure to not cause potential confusion

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

Just call it New New 3DS duh

[–] slowcakes@programming.dev 1 points 4 hours ago

Well they did, it's called switch. Otherwise they've could keep the gameboy for all their handheld devices.

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 hours ago

Add the year it was made. E.g. Steam Controller (2016) [with or without parentheses], Steam Controller (2025), New 3DS (2015), New 3DS (2033)

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 18 hours ago

Ehhh it’s kinda bad. I love my N3DSXL but even the abbreviation is a bit of a pain to type on a mobile device.

On eBay there is a

Used Japanese New Nintendo 3DS XL LL Pokemon Solgaleo Lunala console

which is pretty funny

[–] balgruuf@nord.pub 5 points 1 day ago

720 would be bad and 3 would be behind sony.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Even just doing the car thing and calling it "steam controller 2026" would have been fine

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I legitimately don't know what the big deal is, Ive had a Steam Controller for years...

But yeah, I thought dualsense/dualshock was bad, but steam controller/steam controller is goddamn ridiculous

Xbox: Hold my beer

[–] Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

Wait, there were 2025 previous versions of the Steam Controller?

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didn't even know the original has a case

[–] callouscomic@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It's a really nice case. Still have mine after over 10 years.

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 1 points 2 hours ago

I must have lost mine and forgot about it.

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I was kind of assuming it actually fit. Maybe not a great fit, but a fit just the same.

[–] Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

I do hope someone makes a good case for the new Steam Controller. I like my Spigen brand Steam Deck case more than the Valve one, so maybe they'll make a similar one for the controller that has a nice zippered pocket for the puck and a USB cable.

[–] Natanael@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's not gonna fit. Complete change to the shape.

[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Surprisingly, as someone else commented, it waa confirmed to fit. https://i.redd.it/74n3p6wjsyzg1.jpeg

[–] Natanael@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

I guess the case left a fair bit of margin 🤷

The old joystick is in roughly the same distance from the center so it should close too I guess

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everything you see on there prudent page is a lie.

Look up e-commerce social proof apps.

They just show fake results, it should legally be fraud.

[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are you saying the "16 in cart" and "470 sold" are a lie? In most cases, that would be true. However eBay does show real stats. Sellers can confirm what is being shown, and eBay shows real numbers. Now how much those mean is a different story.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca -3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Didn’t know that’s eBay, but u stand by what I said.

They’re definitely counting abandoned and inactive carts in that stat.

[–] SolSerkonos@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago

I'd argue 'abandoned and inactive' is different than 'fake' and you're kinda moving the goalposts.

[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They’re definitely counting abandoned and inactive carts in that stat.

Sure. Plenty of people use the shopping cart to save items too, without a strong intention of buying it.

That is still very different from those scam sites that literally generate a random number.

[–] sloppy_diffuser@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago

I do this all time waiting for the price to go down during a sale or to get a "You forgot something in your cart" discount. If its a vendor I only buy from 1-2 a year it will likely sit there for 6-12 months.
