Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
Its 2026 and people still dont understand if you dont want to get caught gooning dont do it on main.
What is the context here? I'm not gonna create a bluesky account in order to see what's on the link in the post.
I checked, and the link is to a post from about 10 hours ago talking about how the person in the screenshot, liv, was banned for that post earlier today.
So, in short, they were banned for a post from 503 days ago - from back in December of 2024.
The context of the post that they were banned over is exactly what it says: the head of Trust and Safety got caught liking teen porn from a spam bot on his work account by a bot designed to post what posts his account likes (very similar to the Twitter account that used to track Musk's airplane - both are publicly available information), and he panicked and banned the bot and the account of the creator, a (from what I understand) well liked trans woman back in late 2024. This caused major backlash for a number of reasons that included the large trans population of users on BlueSky and the general distrust and discontent with the staff and their actions, but also due to the staff reaction to the outrage, which was to ban more people. And, if I remember correctly, the head of Trust and Safety followed the trans woman onto another social media platform after banning her to harass her there.
I mean if its all consenting adults they can like whatever they want no? I doubt it was actual child porn. The issue is just what the reaction to "getting caught" was. Bro shouldve just said "lemme goon in peace" and moved on.
Also bluesky is a shithole that doesnt work without accounts, maybe post a link to an instance that works in the future like this one: https://subium.com/profile/freeuse.toys/post/3mlbpopj24c2u
It literally wasn't an issue. Judgement aside for liking posts by a 'barely legal' repost bot, nothing illegal or terrible happened. It's pretty clear he just got upset that this person's bot drew attention to his likes and his overreaction and subsequent ban was the issue.
And now, some people are catching bans for making jokes about how it was an overreaction (as far as I can tell). It's simultaneously very funny and also very sad.
Didn't he also follow her to Twitter or something and harass her there as well after banning her?
It's been a while since I saw this going on, but I swear that that was part of the outrage.
A grown arse man liking 18-19 year olds is still creepy. Chances are extremely high they would like younger if it was legal.
The legal system is not the decider of morality and ethics. “Barely legal” porn exists to cater to pedos.
Watching someone dilute the meaning of pedophile to the point of meaninglessness, while actual real "I fuck 12 year olds, get them pregnant, and kill their babies in a river" pedophiles run the world completely unpunished feels like a psy-op.
Oh sorry, are you sort who “um actually” explains the difference between a pedophile and an ephebophile like it actually fucking matters?
I hear if you're attracted to anyone under 40 you're basically epheebiphile adjacent.... A real creep if you ask me!
Yeah man bro, 40-50 year old men liking teenage girls is based and super cool! I too am going to go defend this behaviour.
It’s especially cool when they make the girls try to appear even younger than that age. That’s totally a normal healthy thing for all old arse men to lust over!
So true we should ban everything that someone finds slightly creepy, even if it hurts absolutely no one and is clearly a fairly common thing. We should especially put it on the same level as doing things that irreparably ruin lives!
Some people are really telling on themselves with how hard they’re defending “jailbait”.
Fighting the dilution of the word pedophile apparently is the same as defending pedophiles...... This is definitely a pedo psi-op...
I'm not defending shit. Words have meaning and are important. Especially words like pedophile today. When you make behaviour most people find acceptable like two adults consensually participating in sex work (porn) the same as the president raping children, you are actually helping the pedo rapists MORE than you're harming the people "creeping" you out.
Most people do not find it acceptable, most people find it creepy.
By trying to normalise this behaviour and argue it’s technically legal, you are helping normalise the concept of attraction to children.
