Banksy says that any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours to rearrange and reuse. It seems a reasonable extension that any surveillance device that gives you no choice whether it sees you or not is yours to rearrange and reuse.

As are the organs of the traitors who installed it.

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can't play an organ though, could I take the traitors drums instead if they have them? I could probably make a sick beat on those.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can play the traitors like a drum, John Bonham-style.

[–] anzo@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago

Spank a class traitor

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 134 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't forget the copper wiring they are attached to!

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 45 points 1 week ago

And the wooden pole!

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 108 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Yeah that's not "pure" silver.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 129 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Shh. Don't let the tweakers hear you. We're recruiting an army here.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 week ago

They should have made it more believable then. Tweakers might be dumb, but don't spit in their face. They know their game and what metals are likely to be.

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 45 points 1 week ago

You're right - they're trying to pull one over on you. It's platinum.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 31 points 1 week ago

That's the joke.

[–] ViceroTempus@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (9 children)

I mean enough scrapmetal still means food/drugs. And I'm certain many cities have a population that would find value in that. Just need to drop off some well placed flyers, and cities would be deflocked overnight.

Looks like aluminum plated solid gold to me!

[–] wabafee@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah I think it's an alloy or some kind still worth it though.

Wouldn't it make a lot more sense for these memes to show actual value. Crackheads are desperate but they ain't that dumb.

If we're going to spread misinformation... Why not actually spread misinformation???

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 8 points 1 week ago

Looks like you need to make some memes my friend!

Truly the catalytic converter of 2026

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 45 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I heard that all of those new "data centers" have lots of copper. Lots of it. So I'd be checking them out before they can suck up all of our good drinking water. /s

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago

Why /s? There must be loads of copper wiring, and I fully encourage theft from billionaires and tech grifters.

[–] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 8 points 1 week ago

Gold as well, PCB boards contain gold.

[–] Karmanopoly@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Data is more valuable than copper.

I'd look into grabbing some of that data

This makes no sense, sorry. Why would it be silver out of anything like stainless steel?

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 184 points 1 week ago (9 children)

There isn’t that much precious metal in a small camera. The meme is about encouraging scrappers who steal, things to get scrap metal convinced it’s true and have them destroy the network. So, trying to con some criminals for the good of society.

[–] Vinylraupe@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Stop calling them criminals. They defend our right of privacy.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

No, they don't do that. The meme is a joke to guide them to do that. They steal. Wiring, bricks, car parts. Sometimes from corporates but more often from people or small businesses who dont have security guards. Let's not glamorise theft of property that is not privacy invasive.

"security researchers"

[–] youcantreadthis@quokk.au 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which is nonsense. As a criminal, I fucking hate these things.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 week ago

What did you say? I can't read that

i like this series of posts about harvesting precious metals from surveillance devices

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 15 points 1 week ago

The batteries are genuinely valuable

[–] Resonosity@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Looks like silver- or tin-plated copper to me. So not entirely silver.

Don't let that fact stop anyone who might enjoy this as a past time though...

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

I dunno, looks like it could be platinum to me. You know how these high tech gadgets are.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I could use some of that silver on my projects

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I know, right? Fucking vampires.
