Another craft made from a simple brass plate, this time the design relies on contrast. It's quite simple, but still one that I'm rather fond of, even though others might not feel the same.
It doesn't show very clearly, but the antlers are made from a cut in the plate, they are not engraved.
This is gorgeous. What does it mean for the plate to be cut but not engraved?
Well, engraved is on the surface, while cut goes through the whole thickness of the plate. This mostly means that the tools to do it are different, as engraving is often done by either scraping the metal with a "blade", or with a rotating tool with a polishing bit; while the cutting is simply with the same saw I cut the rest of the shape with.
Obviously it changes the looks too, as it makes the pattern see-through, but it doesn't show much on the picture...
You have a picture on a different color background or backlit?
I don't have any picture that shows it clearly right now, but I guess this does show it a little bit more...
It's really cool, love how the antlers look. Cut brass has a particular old-yet-new feel that I really enjoy. Also the antlers remind me of lightning, like it's in a storm. Badass!
Edit; it's like a little perspective game. I either see a buck with huge antlers, or a doe standing beneath lightning. Awesome stuff.
I didn't see it as lightning before, but now that you're mentioning it, it does look like it could be seen both ways.
Err, I mean, that was totally my plan from the beginning, of course!
