Bonus question, do you have a favorite work resteoom that's out of the way and less likely to be disturbed?

I think my record is about 15 minutes and my favorite restroom is located on an unoccupied floor. Currently there scrolling lemmy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I had a job as a human broom in a power plant. I had to dust off all the handrails at the plant. I can't really remember, but I think it took a week to get all handrails dusted off, and when I got back to the beginning you could not see any difference. I was hired for 6 months. I could go a whole day without meeting any other employees. I had my own shed outside the plant with my own toilet.

I spent the first 2-4 hours sleeping, then an hour or two cleaning, listening to music, and then spent whatever time I needed on the toilet during a day.

Not the worst job I've had, haha. Quite chill.

The worse the job is, the more my manager clocks my breaks, the more time I spend in the bathroom.

Office job pro tip: Don’t ever let someone see you go into a bathroom. Even if you are only in there for 30 seconds, if someone sees you go in, then spots you again in the hallway half an hour later, they may assume you were in there for half an hour. I had to answer to this stupidity on my performance evals twice.

I used to work in a sheet metal shop years ago back when I was an alcoholic. I was super hungover one day and just took a nap in the stall for an hour and change.

6 hours, worked at walmart, they brought in new management who was extremely overbearing. They would walk around with stop watches and time how long it took for you to put a box on a shelf. I noticed at some point that they didn't see us as people and couldn't really tell us apart. So whenever another skinny blonde girl was working I would fuck around in the furniture department (as they never stocked that area during overnights). Got away with it until i was fired cause i missed 2 weeks of work from getting the flu + covid right after...

Out of all the things they could've fired me for they chose the only thing that was illegal to fire someone for in this state

So did you win the wrongful termination suit?

[–] KaRunChiy@fedia.io 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

didn't file it, was too busy moving after my brother threw his gf off a balcony and ran from the police, kind took a little precedence over the work stuff.

America seems like a total madhouse.

[–] one_old_coder@piefed.social 37 points 1 day ago

TL;DR; 4 hours every day for 3 months.

Not the restroom but, a long time ago, a company tried to make me quit and fuck me in the ass in the process because of management issues to say the least. I was essential to the company and I knew it and they knew it, and they could not sue me because the boss was a famous bully in town (he still is).

I once told them I would quit, and during the mandatory "3 months notice" (in France, equivalent to your 2 weeks notice in the USA but legally mandatory), I was watching movies and playing games in my car during lunch from 11 AM to 3 PM. 4 hours of pure fun and entertainment every day, which was half depression, and half watching every TV show out there.

The software dev contract in France is usually "you have no specific hours, you don't clock in/out, you're free to organize your own time, but we don't pay you overtime." My boss told me that I was basically a slave because of that, and refused me some more work from home because he was petty. I took that as a hint that I could work whenever I wanted to. One lawyer friend of mine confirmed that it was legit as long as I quit. I did that as a small message to my bosses and middle managers, aka "fuck you and fuck you forever."

15 mins is a standard shit break tbh. You want to use the far stalls though as those have phone signal. If you use the ones closer to the door, you only get signal when someone opens the door.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, my job has multiple offices in the area and I know where the secret shitters are in each of them. I've definitely occupied one for 15 minutes before.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

They call those "safe harbours".

I work in OT for a somewhat big company.

During the high season months, our job is to be "on call" during our shift. It means that during your 8 hours, the maintenance guys of the factory can call you for whatever problem happens (mostly with PLCs but also with industrial computers that have a SCADA system) and my job is to solve the issue, as fast as possible.

This means that some days, I won't even see my office in all the shift because I'm running here and there with my laptop solving issues... But somedays I'll spend the whole 8 hours chilling in my office watching anime, learning some language, or even playing videogames.

My boss knows about this, he even enters the office sometimes and catches us chilling, but his mindset with us is (and this is a quote of him): I hate when I enter your office and see you fucking around, but I actually don't, because, if you're here fucking around, it means you did a good job because the factory is running.

TL;DR: 8 hours, but not in a restroom, in my office.

[–] KaRunChiy@fedia.io 7 points 15 hours ago

Good boss mindset. In fast food service as long as my boss sees the orders going through cleanly they don't really care how much you fuck around, cause it's already hard to catch a break so any time where you can breathe it's usually deserved.

[–] Drewmeister@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I used to take naps in the server room.

[–] Toes@ani.social 8 points 23 hours ago

I got caught by the janitor doing that haha

[–] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

20 minutes but im a teacher so its hard to "sneak away" unnoticed.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

40ish minutes. I was hungover as fuck. I was visiting one of our locations abroad and nobody really knew me, plus I had an agenda that was mostly solo-stuff, so it was relatively easy to just away to collect myself.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

20 min I think. The business was almost that long. Anyway...

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I haven't needed to. I do a bit of driving around to our field locations so if I don't want to work I make up and excuse to drive to a site an hour or 2 away, do an "on site audit" of our gear and travel back. The whole time I can listen to a podcast or an audiobook.

[–] edg@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I like doing that but have been too busy recently. I've also done it just do I can get lunch at a particular place.

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

I used to work in a kitchen and shit was stressful. I'd regularly have panic attacks in the bathroom for like an hour at a time

[–] btsax@reddthat.com 8 points 1 day ago

My legs fall asleep after like 20 min so I would love some advice on extending my stay

[–] WongKaKui@piefed.ca 5 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Not me but:

Brooo omg my older brother SLEPT in the bathroom of a warehouse for TWO HOURS 🤣

Like dude hid in a stall and just... wait how the fuck can you even sleep in the position?

He never got caught lol

My mom was like: "They're gonna catch you slacking and then drag you out jn front of everyone to humiliate you"

Mom told me that back in China, they micromanage every employee and you could never get away with being "afk" for 2 hours lmfao...

But is a big place in that warehouse so its hard to notice someone gone for 2 hours...

Then they started doing bathroom signout sheets... like wtf... are we still in K-12 school??? (it's a unionized place too not sure whats going on now lol)

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 19 hours ago

One IBS person gets singled out for punishment and it should become a good fight.

[–] MalMen@masto.pt 2 points 19 hours ago

@WongKaKui @edg 15 years ago I had few friends working in a warehouse half of the people that worked there sleep while the other half worked, then they switch places... they even had some kind of hidden bedroom made of cartboard

[–] moistracoon@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Literally on the potty now, not pooping. I don’t typically go for long periods of time but I go a LOT. Sometimes up to ten minutes if I’m extra sad.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 6 points 23 hours ago

You haven't seen my work bathroom.. I just sit at the workbench and kill time that way, instead.

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 4 points 23 hours ago

If you have a good recording of someone quietly sobbing to play you can avoid people hassling you
