Welcome to Enshittification

A community for everyone who misspelt it as enshitification.

"I the onceler felt sad as I watched them all go, but business is business and business must grow, regardless of crummies in tummies you know."

This is your space to document the decay, demise, and destruction of the tech world as we know it. Share stories, articles, and firsthand experiences that capture the ongoing decline of once-celebrated platforms, services, and companies in the late stage capitalist landscape.

From monopolistic corporate shifts to anti-user updates and the relentless pursuit of profit over quality—if it’s broken, bloated, or just plain bad, it belongs here. We’re here to spotlight the moves that make the tech world worse, one piece of enshittification at a time.

Disagree, I care. I don't want to watch AI 'actors'

You know it is funny, AI people seem to say all the time "Remember when people said CGI would ruin movies and tv shows? No one cares now!" which mystifies me because conversations about how awesome live-action movies are with practical effects are super common among film nerds I have found?

CGI can be cool but like... yes people complain about the ways in which it allows cinema to be cheapened all of the time? That isn't a good defense of AI?

I wouldn't consider myself a film nerd, but I can enjoy a good movie with CGI done well. At the same time, I would agree I prefer practical effects over CGI most of the time, it just looks 'cooler' to me.

My statement was more specific to inclusion of actors that are AI, which I hope doesn't become a thing.

In general, I prefer when special effects are planned well and given the time and budget to be great, often times that results in a combination practical and CG effect, but the artists work hard to realize the shared human vision either way.

People hate CGI, because when they notice it, it's done poorly. It's done poorly either because technology doesn't exist yet for it to be great or more often the case- when it's under funded.

The whole point of media is to share a fundamental human experience, to reflect emotions, and to share an intended meaning. AI can't do that.

Avatar and Avatar 2 are in the top 3 of box-office successes.

Yes, some people care.

But if you want to make a box-office success, it is irrelevant. People will rush to see a 'good' CG movie and will probably rush to see a 'good' AI movie. "Hey, this one has Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in the Marvel Universe!"

Disagreeing with Kassovitz from an artistic point of view makes sense, but from a business perspective, sadly, he is probably right.

If this comes true, it's because nobody will be watching movies at all anymore, because all aspects of them will be terrible AI slop by that point.

Over the past seven years, I've practically seen no movies in theaters. Maybe just one every year or two. It baffles my mind that people are interested in seeing any of the garbage that's constantly in theaters. Almost all of it is Disney brain rot (marvel is disney brain rot)

Kassovitch is French. This argument in invalid. You are describing an extra-affiné slice of Comté!

Kassovitch is French

Any cure for that?

[–] keepthepace@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

Yes but the anglo conversion therapy has been recognized as torture by the EU and as a crime against gastronomy by UNESCO

[–] CaptMurica@beehaw.org 4 points 1 week ago

I will still care whether its AI slop or real people. I won’t willingly watch AI slop.

He said fuck copyright boys, you know what that means right!?

Oh wait he just meant fuck everyone else's copyright, not his. How enlightened he is

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I already don't care about movies much any more as it is, so I guess he's not technically wrong.
