I don’t listen to her music, but I like everything I’ve read about her. She sounds like a good role model for the younger generation.

You're like a child throwing a tantrum. I see this all over the Internet: someone thinks of a way to make something better and, like an entitled prince, you go "it's not a perfect solution so it's worthless! Problem not solved entirely, begone with you."

You're not suggesting anything, you're just being petulant. Sorry that there isn't a solution that makes everyone happy and doesn't even crush a single ant with how little it impacts the environment, sorry we don't live in the make believe land where that's possible. Better shut down any attempt to make the world better if it doesn't solve everything everywhere all at once forever.

You seem to have completely missed my point. I was not complaining about people trying to be "less terrible", of course that's good. But this is an "Uplifting News" community, and I found an article that says "well at least we're trying to be not quite as terrible, lol" not uplifting, but quite sad. I would find it uplifting if people were trying to be good, not "less terrible".

This would fit better in a "music" community, not "uplifting news".

But that's what I'm saying, I'm not complaining about people being less terrible, I'm complaining about expecting uplifting news in an uplifting news community, but the news making me feel sad, not lifted up. I didn't say I was not complaining, just that I'm not complaining about what people are saying I'm complaining about, including you.

So you're complaining that you personally didn't feel good, and that's somehow OP's fault, or the article, or the industry, or the celebrity....

I think that you're not meeting things halfway. You can't just sit back and have people serve you a good mood little prince, you have to make a teensy bit of effort on your end, too. To not be a curmudgeon. Because anyone clever enough can just twist anything into bad news and a bad mood, like you did.

Instead of accepting the good news presented to you, you got a case of the "yeah but"s, which hiccup out of your mouth every time you get good tidings.

"People are trying new ways to clean the ocean" yeahbut it's not a perfect solution there's still plastic being made.

"People found a new way to treat cancer!" Yeahbut it's not a cure for all cancer what's the point.

"This person is trying to make the music industry better!" Yeahbut concerts are still bad, people should just listen to local musicians.

So, yeah, TLDR, skill issue on happiness, go touch grass and maybe try to just accept good news instead of whine about it

No one met me halfway, look at how this entire comment chain treated me, including you, people telling me to go fuck myself and how terrible I am. Even if I am a downer, I'm not doing it to make people feel bad either, that just wasn't my intention. I didn't attack anyone, I've been trying to be kind the whole time, and just because I have an unpopular opinion that I didn't keep to myself, I got trashed.

Nah, you did attack it. You started this off by trash talking people trying to make the world slightly better. Even if you didn't mean to step on someone's toes you still hurt them.

You talked shit then got consequences for it.

And you're saying you don't have to try to, for your own safe, accept that things can be made a little better rather than solved, because other people gave you those consequences.

I'm saying for your own sake, stop being picky when it comes to improving things, and stop talking shit if it's not up to your unreasonable standards.

Of course not. But there's concerts all the time in my town by local musicians and same all over the world, there's no need for these massive tours that as you can clearly see, are bad for the environment.

I see your point, however one could argue that just because we can do something doesn't mean we should.

For example, boats. Roughly 40% of all the oil produced goes straight into the bowels of boats that ship oil to other places. This abundance of oil allows you to experience things like being able to eat asparagus out of season.

Does it make sense to be so inefficient? No, but we still do it because much like an alcoholic — we don't know how else to be and people will literally die if the oil stops flowing. We're seeing it now in real time.

How does this connect to the music industry? Well, the 'performance value' you're referring to is entirely propped up by the oil industry. Whether it's trucks and buses to carry equipment across the country the artist plays in, or planes to carry those same people and equipment to other countries — it is all ultimately propped up by oil. Tons and tons of it, we aren't even getting into all the plastic that ends up being sold as merch. Further still, we haven't addressed all the oil that goes into making their equipment, buses, trucks, planes, etc. etc..

So yeah, you can make the argument that the production value is simply superior for these big name artists. You are also tacitly expressing support for the very systems that are pushing for fascism worldwide — whether you accept reality or not.

Like, of course I would like to see individuals like Eilish do more stuff like this. I'd also like the music industry to utterly collapse. I would much rather see the music industry collapse, actually.

And I doubt that anything I say will change your feelings on the matter. I just dislike the hypocrisy of applauding performative climate activism when it is clearly that.

If you genuinely care about the environment and stemming the completion of the 6th known mass extinction event, you need to stop buying so much oil and oil byproducts. You should consider an internationally performing music artist tied to big record labels as an oil byproduct.

But then that begs the question of how old you are, assuming it's your first phone, unless you just somehow managed to get around without a phone, which seems impossible. Or I suppose the rest were hand-me-downs.

By the way, if it matters, I felt neutral to your position. Like, I don't think people here should be acting so violently against you, but I also get the appeal of certain artists and that there will just inevitably be world-level artists, even if I don't follow this one specifically. Like, I do think it can fit in here but that it's not the strongest of fits, as well.

Because I think being informed about what's going on in the world is useful.

Also it's one of the safest form of social interaction a socially anxious person can do. Otherwise one gets very little.
