Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)

Because he's a spineless loser. Most unpopular chancellor in recent history. The CDU hasn't accepted the new reality yet.

[โ€“] Senseless@feddit.org 13 points 1 week ago

To quote a famous poet: "Weil die am Leben vorbeilaufen, diese Spinnerbande."

Limbo championship, winner merz!

[โ€“] Tudsamfa@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

We do have to keep in mind that they are the most popular party still. So "new reality" my foot, it works for them, so that's what they'll continue to do.

[โ€“] mech@feddit.org 22 points 1 week ago

That's a self-own, Fritz!

[โ€“] wrinkle2409@lemmy.cafe 21 points 1 week ago

He's lecking those eiers

He's a rich sociopath with a penchant for telling lies and a hunger for power. Of course he has a good personal relationship with Trump, they are practically soulmates.

[โ€“] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Exactly how many children raped would it take for him to distance himself from Trump?

12? 20?

What's his child rape tolerance threshold?

[โ€“] Ooops@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago

You are too focused on children here, but not everyone's taste is the same. Merz is the guy who voted to keep marital rape legal instead...

[โ€“] Don_alForno@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago

That highly depends on how many private planes the children's parents own.

[โ€“] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't they agree on most things? Of course Merz must hate Trump for being loud and sloppy but aren't their politics and policy goals entirely compatible?

[โ€“] jeffep@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

No, they don't. For example, Merz doesn't give a fuck about the country, hires his unqualified buddies from the industry into his ministry positions, and thinks domestic abuse is not a crime.

Edit: of course this is ironic. Text based communication is an ass.

[โ€“] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That sounds like Trump to me

[โ€“] yakko@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Were they being ironic just then, or

[โ€“] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Now-a-days, it's really hard to tell...

[โ€“] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

That's exactly like trump

[โ€“] richardwonka@mas.to 3 points 1 week ago

@jeffep โ€ฆ oh, wait. Maybe there are similarities.

[โ€“] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 3 points 1 week ago

Good boy Now sit Here's your biscuit

[โ€“] gusgalarnyk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Merz is a traitor to his people, of course he's in bed with all the worst people around the globe. Conservatives are a systemic failure that slowly errode society. The CDU must not maintain power and we need to fix wealth inequality before it's too late.

[โ€“] Gonzako@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Who's Merz? I checked out of German politics since austerity policies and Merkel

He is the much worse guy Merkel prevented from gaining power until she retired.

[โ€“] mech@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago

Merz ended austerity policies, took on 500 billion โ‚ฌ in new debt, used that to finance tax cuts for the rich and big business, and is now crippling social security and pensions, saying there's not enough money.

[โ€“] Gladaed@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago

You might not like it but that's a reasonable thing to do.
