Clearly this is for shower beers or bath wine.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Apparently shower beer is a sublime experience.

"Apparently"?

[–] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago

Can confirm, it is!

[–] hzl@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah, it's great!

Some medications need to be kept cold. Most people take their meds at the beginning of the day. The only justifiable reason I could think for putting a mini fridge next to your toilet.

Edit: Is that a bottle opener on the fridge...? Maybe it came like that?

In the USA this is also a great tip for getting a free mini-fridge in your hotel room. Just say it’s for meds and it’ll be delivered in less than 30 minutes, though it’s best to ask ahead of time to meet ADA requirements. The hotel is not allowed to ask for proof or the names of the medication. In my case it’s usually leftover spaghetti and a Red Bull.

Hotels are charging for everything these days. Fuck ‘em.

Looks like a handle not a bottle opener. It look like one of those retro style fridges so it's an old school type handle that latches, or imitates a latching one at least.

I assumed it was for insulin, which needs to be refrigerated.

I just keep mine in the kitchen fridge. Aside from the power consumption, I have had very poor luck with those mini fridges randomly losing temperature control.

Nah, this is for shower beers!

Crack a cold one while you drop a hot one

Chug a beer while you clear your rear.

Maybe some cheese curds while you plop the turds.

Just don't touch the birria or you'll have diarrhea. (Cause it's old and should get throw out soon.)

Ah a good old stool sample fridge

Lets see.

Over my years of doing home health, I actually ran into cooling units of some kind in bathrooms three times.

In all cases, they got installed for one specific thing, then the people discovered how handy it actually is.

In all three cases, they started out for meds that the people habitually took at morning or night, and it being right there made it harder to fuck up

However, a lot of stuff would end up there

The big one? Hemorrhoid products. All three had those in multiples. Preparation h, plus those freezable butt plugs that are not really butt plugs, but might as well be. Witch hazel, medicated pads as well. Cool/cold products on a painful ass are delightful, and it's stuff a lot of people won't keep in their kitchen fridge.

Similarly, face masks, like for sleeping or for "spa day". Cold packs for under eye care work well, and bathrooms are usually closer to bedrooms than kitchens. Tangential to that, hemorrhoid cremes can help baggy eyes, if you're careful.

One lady kept a watergun in the bathroom fridge to fuck with her grandkids. Since it was the master bath rather than shared one, she'd sneak away and come back blasting icy water. Took them ages to discover she had a fridge in that bathroom since there were two other bathrooms.

Now, I wouldn't actually recommend the mini fridges for medicine storage. They tend to be unreliable, and some meds you don't want stored where cooling can cut out unexpectedly. A full size one will usually be less prone to temp swings and failed thermostats. Definitely not something life saving.

I’ve heard that some people keep certain makeup in the fridge to avoid bacteria growth and help make it last longer. Plus things like face masks and various skin treatments.

Plus alcohol… yeah…

That is an ancient fridge... And it's plugged into a surge protector hiding underneath the toilet?? I'd be terrified of this house's electrical.

[–] calliope@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago

I agree with you on the power strip under the toilet. That’s insanity.

Frigidaire makes refrigerators now that look vintage but are brand new. I didn’t find this exact model on the website, but I could see it being a modern “vintage” one.

Why is the toilet cling filmed?

[–] Sunoiki@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

For freshness

[–] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

It's a foreclosure so I'm assuming because the water is off and they don't want you to leave a surprise for the next house hunter. They'll tape or plastic over toilets if the waters off or it's been winterized.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 3 points 2 months ago

Some people keep a lot of meds and cosmetics in their fridges. It takes space away from food in the fridge and it's gross especially with creams and ointments. Would be totally understandable for someone in the household to suggest something like this if that were the case.
