For years it has been repeated again and again that gas is needed to firm renewables when “the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow”. Events have shown the opposite: renewables are needed to firm oil, gas and coal when the ship won’t go and the pipeline doesn’t flow.

Indeed.

Nothing new here though. Half of us have known we need to decarbonise industries as quickly as possible, while the conservatives have as usual been trying to avoid doing so.

As I've said a bunch of times over the last few weeks, I'd like Albo and other leaders of like minded middle powers to stand together and condemn Trump's behavior. It's absurd that everyone is too scared to say anything. He's caused global harm in order to further his own interests.

The Victorian government should announce railway electrification (of the V/Line routes serving Melbourne’s commuter belt, followed by routes such as Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo) as a flagship project along the lines of the level crossing removal project.

The Gippsland line used to be electrified all the way to Traralgon :,-(

Now it is is consume, consume, consume.

We've needed to for the last 10 years. But muh profits.

Remember the Octopus Act in Victoria? And how all that infrastructure had been allowed to deteriorate and now we are lucky if we have a Bicycle path instead of Rail infrastructure?

Let's run our transport on coal instead of oil. Nice.

The EV Mad Max movies are going to be an interesting twist on the setting.

Australia’s power grid is not capable of handling rapid, large increases of electricity use, nor are people’s wallets prepared for what would happen to power bills.

Hmm, we have gold plated electricity grid, underutilized. It can handle a lot, not to mention than full electrification of transport will not increase load much as many thought.

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 1 points 1 day ago

It can’t even handle the load we have in a few states lol. Full electrification of transport will absolutely increase load a gigantic amount.
