Men in the United States will be automatically registered with the Selective Service System starting in December 2026 under a new law. The system maintains records for a potential military draft, though no draft is currently in place.

Previously, individuals were required to register with the Selective Service System, but a law signed by President Donald Trump in late 2025 shifts that responsibility to the federal government to streamline the process.

Under the current system, men are required to register with the Selective Service System within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Late registration is accepted until age 26.

To reinstate a draft, Congress would have to pass legislation authorizing it

Thank goodness we don't have a president who routinely does things he has no power to legally do. And even if that did happen, I'm so thankful we have a strong Congress who would push back.

People are so angry right now that Congress members would literally be lynched if they reinstated the draft. Maybe that's what global society needs, an angry mob to remove anyone who even mentions attacking another country.

Oh look another oligarchy preparing to invade a foreign land. We call the previous one orcs, seems fitting to call these ones orcs too.

Just say "No!" to military service.

Dodge the draft.

Or join the draft (selective service). Honour the oath and defend the constitution against ALL ENEMIES foreign AND DOMESTIC.

This isn't a draft - this is registering for selective service, which everyone has had to anyway.

Nope. Selective Service registration applies to all male U.S. citizens (including those who live abroad), and immigrants residing in the U.S., who are 18-25 years old.

If you don't register you can't get federal student loan assistance, access to job training programs or work for the federal government.

im sure this will be an unpopular opinion but since you had to do it, it is easier that it be automatic. Maybe something like they send you a thing where you can send back a notice of refusal or something.
