That’s what they’re “trading”

Which will be finished first? The war or Trump?

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

The moment he stops making more billions for the billionaire oligarchy Trump is finished. So I guess the war will finish first.

At this point, I think no matter what Trump does his base will still support him. The war may go on for years, but the legend of that jackass might be exalted for millennia.

He is going to end up embalmed in the rotunda of the Congress like Lenin or Jeremy Bentham.

I find myself wondering if every messiah of every religion might have started as a version of Trump. Many religions are popularized long enough after the death of their holy one that living memories would be sparse and the stories are what remains, true or false.

The failure of the world's oldest democracy.

[–] MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

We don't have democracy in the U.S., and we never have. At least, to my knowledge, I've never been allowed to vote on legislation or major policy

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

America has a representative democracy, which is a type of democracy.

[–] Fluke@feddit.uk 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Mate we have pubs here that are older than your entire country. The US isn't the "oldest" anything, there's nothing the US knows that it didn't learn from someone else. From Warfare to Politics, Science to Religion, all shamelessly lifted wholesale from elsewhere, or plain stolen from someone else.

American exceptionalism is the greatest lie you've ever been sold.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 2 points 23 hours ago

It's always some buck-toothed ignorant-ass american named Jimbob who says "america has the oldest " - because he's not been more than 10 miles away from where he was shat unto the earth.

Which country is that? How long ago did your country adopt democracy?

[–] Fluke@feddit.uk 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm from the UK, but that's irrelevant as I didn't say democracy here was older than your country, did I?

My point stands.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago

Your pub may be older, but don't pretend your house is in order. Your culture is being manipulated, exploited, and ruined the same ways as ours, and by the same class of elitist psychopaths. Frankly, appealing to the fact that your society has several centuries on ours gives you even less of an excuse.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

You brought up the pub in order to compare it to the age of democracies, so of course it's relevant. But that pub is even older when compared to the British democracy than American democracy, isn't it?

If the pub's age compared to a democracy isn't relevant now, then it wasn't relevant when you brought it up, either.

You are the one who brought it up, and I am using it in exactly the same way that you did. If you don't like it, then you shouldn't have brought it up.

Of course, I expected you were from the UK, but I knew why you didn't write the UK in your original comment, because most of the things you said about the US in that comment could be said in even harsher terms about the UK.

San Marino is in trouble?

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Does it count if they "Weekend at Bernies" him?

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Only if it’s actually Bernie controlling the puppet.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think you might have misunderstood that movie quite severely..

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It’s not a metaphor for universal healthcare?

Nah, it's mostly about golf.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll put $50 on Trump not making it to the 2028 election

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

HE’S NOT ELIGIBLE TO RUN WHY ARE WE STILL SANEWASHING THIS

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

just because he's not eligible, doesn't mean he won't. He was ineligible at the last election, given his MANY felony convictions, but here we are.

Right wing news sources are pushing the idea that the term limit is about consecutive terms, and a shocking amount of people are just buying that.

Also, a small point, there is nothing in the constitution that suggests a convicted felon can't be president.

Seeing the news about today's pointless announcement from the turd-in-chief, I was thinking this exact thing.

[–] knotRyder@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

The same group of people that bet on the first one has made another bet that they'll be a full on ground invasion
