Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1753 readers
49 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

MODERATORS

I've made 3 posts to that community, none of which were in that span of time. So it had to be due to my accounts posting history. For the clarification, I open a window with all of the tabs of communities I am going to post to and add links/images and then titles. I then scroll down, ctrl tab, and hit submit. I'm not a bot. Which the mod could have just like... asked. But fine. He may not have the common decency to even ask a question before jumping to conclusions but i'll stop posting them so fast. Don't know which moderator it is but given that @Demigodrick@lemmy.zip is the only active moderator over there... fairly sure it was him.

Could just ask next time dude.

Edit: That's a lot of downvotes for not saying anything one way or another.

Edit 2: Ask questions? Get downvoted with no answers. Be polite? Get hostility for no reason. Wow.

I can see why your account might have looked sus with such rapid posting, but it also feels a bit extreme to jump to a ban with no further signs of being a bot.

Your post history is varied enough and you comment, which lends more credence to you not being a bot.

Personally I think the mods overreacted here and you should be unbanned.

Eh. Even if I am unbanned, what's the point? I wasn't banned from the gaming community, I was banned from the entire instance because of jumped to conclusions.

I'd say PTB if the instance ban isn't reversed.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 5 points 6 hours ago

Well they're the admin of the site, they can reverse the instance ban too. Hopefully it's all just a mistake that can be fixed.

Seeing as they won't see your mention, I'll ping them here to let them know @demigodrick@lemmy.zip

I mean, you're a two day old account that made 16 posts across different communities in about 7s, you've got to admit that that is bot-like behaviour. Still, your explanation makes sense, so I don't think anyone is necessarily in the wrong here (there doesn't seem to be an acronym for that yet).

You're going to need to have someone else reach out to Demigodrick though, as you're instance banned from .zip.

It is bot-like behavior, sure, but a simple question could have also cleared it all up. Making a snap judgment off of a cursory glance with no follow-up while having a bot on the moderation team? I dunno. Sounds like PTB to me.

That looks like an automated ban for making three posts in one second. If you didn't do that, or you had good non-bot reasons to make three posts in no time flat, you should contact the mod of the community and ask them to please unban you

My guess is their automation is a bit strong

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 2 points 7 hours ago

It’s not automated, mod log doesn’t show Gaming Bot being the account to ban.

Downvoted for complaining about downvotes.

Also feels like fairly bot-like behavior to me.

I'm not complaining about the downvotes. I was just pointing it out because no one had said anything.

I'm not a bot though and I'm not using one. My point was the moderator banned me for something they themselves are promoting and didn't actually check in on anything, just made an assumption.

Why are you so hostile?

The attitude of people on Reddit and Lemmy is unbearable...

I feel sorry for you...

It's only getting worse, and it's unbearable...
