⚄︎ Perchance

This is a Lemmy Community for perchance.org, a platform for sharing and creating random text generators.

Feel free to ask for help, share your generators, and start friendly discussions at your leisure :)

This community is mainly for discussions between those who are building generators. For discussions about using generators, especially the popular AI ones, the community-led Casual Perchance forum is likely a more appropriate venue.

See this post for the Complete Guide to Posting Here on the Community!

Rules

1. Please follow the Lemmy.World instance rules.

2. Be kind and friendly.

  • Please be kind to others on this community (and also in general), and remember that for many people Perchance is their first experience with coding. We have members for whom English is not their first language, so please be take that into account too :)

3. Be thankful to those who try to help you.

  • If you ask a question and someone has made a effort to help you out, please remember to be thankful! Even if they don't manage to help you solve your problem - remember that they're spending time out of their day to try to help a stranger :)

4. Only post about stuff related to perchance.

  • Please only post about perchance related stuff like generators on it, bugs, and the site.

5. Refrain from requesting Prompts for the AI Tools.

  • We would like to ask to refrain from posting here needing help specifically with prompting/achieving certain results with the AI plugins (text-to-image-plugin and ai-text-plugin) e.g. "What is the good prompt for X?", "How to achieve X with Y generator?"
  • See Perchance AI FAQ for FAQ about the AI tools.
  • You can ask for help with prompting at the 'sister' community Casual Perchance, which is for more casual discussions.
  • We will still be helping/answering questions about the plugins as long as it is related to building generators with them.

6. Search through the Community Before Posting.

  • Please Search through the Community Posts here (and on Reddit) before posting to see if what you will post has similar post/already been posted.

It looks terrible now. Cramped, squashed.

And why do devs have to change EVERY design that works?!

I just can't understand it. Is this some kind of illness or obsession among developers?

Ai tech changes fast, The old model is very outdated. Presumably why its being updated. but also, the new one might be outdated by now.

This is indeed what it seems like. Developers and humans in general have never learned to leave well enough alone after a certain point. They always think they can do better, but when it turns out that this is not the case, going back to a previously working version is something that seems hard to do. Because of ego?

This is something that seems to happen with some many sites and software. Always the tinkering, the messing around with things, presumably for the sake of keeping busy?

I'm not seeing any changes on desktop so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Is this a mobile thing or am I missing something?

Why does a programmer seemingly need to introduce modifications to things the user is accustomed to and doesn't consider broken -- that's actually a good question.

It's the eternal dev-user tension of progress versus familiarity. The straight answer is that, from the programmer's perspective, it can be safely assumed that the average user doesn't know squat, so if a change is deemed as necessary for the long-term improvement of the software, then that's that; complaints will happen, but they'll be completely ignored to preserve mental energy and everybody will eventually just move on with their lives. I'm not saying that's a happy ending, it's just generally what happens.

Look at a large project like Blender, just to name a popular example. Every few versions, they make changes that are disruptive to established workflows and obviously this frustrates a lot of people. Have their reactions managed to fundamentally alter this equation? No. The tool continues to evolve, and the users have to -- willingly or begrudgingly -- adapt to it rather than expect it to remain the same forever.

Key difference here is that the Blender Foundation can afford to provide older versions of their software, whereas Perchance (presumably) cannot, so the frustration hits harder as there's simply no going back. To that I say: if we look at the precedent set by post-update complaints in the vein of "switch back to the old [insert thing]", either for Perchance or otherwise, then the inevitable conclusion we must come to is that such course of action is largely ineffective.

So friction is, unfortunately, baked into the development process -- that's not a novel concept by any means. Could this tension be managed better? An interesting concept, perhaps possible. But closing the "communication gap" at the root of this issue is honestly not something I'd expect from a solo dev working on their passion project, by which I very much mean to say life is short and your days only get shorter, would you spend your waning time on this plane of existence addressing every uninformed user opinion only to have to do it all over again sooner rather than later? Yeah, no. It is what it is.

Finally, suggesting that programmers are unwell ("Is this some kind of illness or obsession among developers?") just strikes me as disrespectful, and I will add, one might as well ask a similar question of the user upon witnessing the expectable reaction to this recurring situation.

Sincerely, idk some unix boi

Bro no offense to you but why do you always have to yap in every single reply you write? Like dude, you don't need to write an entire essay just to respond to someone's criticism. I mean, going slightly off topic, writing skills like this can genuinely get you places, you could get a job in marketing or something or maybe even become a writer for some big company. But otherwise, you don't need to write an entire essay just to respond to someone. A short, 5-8 sentence reply is enough for most people. (Yes I counted the amount of sentences in my reply, there is a total of 5 sentences, six if counting the one in parentheses.)

A question can be rather simple yet deserve a fairly involved answer, though your's does not.

If you mean Perchance OFC T2i plugin's GAi core modeling and networking,.. Its, because "Perchance COs, main dev, and even myself "Assistant Dev" can see that when it comes to an efficient model vs the prior, all changes are made to cap the cost of Ai image generation, the single most expensive system too operate here on Perchance – is the T2i plugin".. The current new model of 2026 is not fairly much diffrent from the prior Schell/Chroma/Dev mixed multimodal/Perchance customs flux.1 networking of core modeling, now on "Klein, flux.2 networking, Klein is part of the new era of super distillation models, while being technical prompting stteam‐lined". The new model, it is quite literally the most quality efficient model to date, & manages to be built to throw more resource to mid ground if being technical prompt prodded, future potential also hints at it being extremely well equip for tool building, plus leveraging of LoRa sub modeling, possibly later formalizations of sub modality and user capable loading and off loading of training data..ect. At the moment to some, I'd say few.. It may seem like complete garbage, or a literal direct downgrading of our prior customs,.. particularly because it handles as if It's nearly the same model.., It is not, and moving forward, that and users actually studying up on siht will realise "that it is actually possibly ¿A better model?". With time and good practice I'am betting the new model will prove to be "Yes better"...

Can you please check my post from a month ago and suggest me what I can do? I'm trying to preserve specifically the "painted anime" art style.

I'm not sure which generator you're talking about here. I don't think I've substantially changed the UI of any of my own generators recently. Note that anyone can create their own generator on Perchance, so you might have been using someone else's. Can you share a link?

[–] TURBOOO@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Okay they work now.
