Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Like many of his contemporaries, Kentler came to believe that sexual repression was key to understanding the Fascist consciousness.

Hm...

Fun fact: That was almost exactly the time frame where the Berlin Senate was lead by the conservative CDU (who, within the same time frame, never got tired of slandering their Green opposition as the "pedophile party")

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

And yet people keep voting for them.

[–] sober_monk@lemmy.world 22 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

pedophiles

the government

Name a more iconic duo.

[–] ServantOfRa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 hours ago

Conservatives and projection

[–] Sinaf@lemmy.world -2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

There are a lot of decent people working for the government that do an amazing job given the constraints they are put under.

But thank you for your nuanced take, I guess?

[–] sober_monk@lemmy.world 10 points 3 hours ago

Kentler believed pedophiles could make acceptable foster parents, and that any sexual contact would be relatively harmless if it were not forced.

How's that for a nuanced take

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 6 hours ago

What the fucking fuck

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 50 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Man, this is even worse than trying to teach dolphins english using acid and hand jobs

[–] trackball_fetish@lemmy.wtf 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Oh lawd they gave the murder machines lysergic

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

lysergic

I joke about "lysdexic" so often my brain read that as "dyslexia" at first. heh

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

It's funny because everyone knows dolphins prefer the romance languages.

Behind the Bastards also did a great series on it

This could have been a 30 minute conversation.
I recognize that my inability to listen to random people yap is my own problem, but get to the point.

[–] rosco385@lemmy.wtf 6 points 3 hours ago

I love Behind the Bastards, actually pretty much anything by Robert Evans, but I stopped listening for this exact reason.

[–] nogooduser@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

If that’s a problem for you then Behind the Bastards is not for you.

I’d say that the aim of the podcast is not to document the events in question (that information could always be found elsewhere) but to document the back story behind the events in detail.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 3 points 57 minutes ago* (last edited 56 minutes ago)

That not necessarily the problem—I'm the type to watch the multi-hour retrospectives about videogames.
The problem is all the off-topic chitchat.

Wow. This continued until at least 2003.

[–] eddie@feddit.online 8 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

just another rational and well thought out day in germany!

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

It's almost the worst thing Germans did.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 15 points 14 hours ago

Sure, fucking sure... kept staring at the screen after i put the three dots and so much was going through my head to write about this but all that was left after about 30 mins of staring at the screen was what's the point, it's like trying to put out a wildfire with a dry dish rag.

Wish there was a copy of that grant proposal.
