I recently learned that hpv also caused oral cancer. So if you haven't got this vaccine you really should. I know I had to ask a few times because they kept telling me it wasn't worth it due to my age and sex.

It also causes ass cancer, dick cancer, and vulvular cancer!

In my research, I’ve found that most humans have at least one of the following: Mouth, ass, uterus, vulva, or dick. Many of them have 3 (or more!) of those things. A special few have collected the whole set!

Definitely a vaccine worth getting. If your doctor tells you that you’re too old, tell them their knowledge is too old. More importantly, ask them to note in your chart that they have refused preventative medicine against your wishes.

In other news, water is wet.

Yep. Nearly got it from being exposed to HPV from an asymptomatic male spouse. There weren’t any symptoms other than potentially a little skin tag. It was caught in the advanced precancerous stage or whatever. They offered me a hysterectomy at 29 or we could try cutting out what (visibly to me) looked like about large marble-sized chunk of cervix. We could try that twice. Thankfully I’ve been clear for years, have my vaccine now etc. You know, it’s wild they do that while you’re awake in an exam room to me. Anyway!! A little vaccine could have spared all that.

It's a little hyperbolic to say, but the most dangerous part of a surgery really is the anesthesia. If you can do an operation without it it's far, far better for the patient, even though it sucks to have to be conscious through it.

There’s a lot of options between no pain relief and anesthesia though.

Most procedures for women are done with no pain relief at all. Maybe they’ll suggest you take some ibuprofen beforehand.

They only started believing that the cervix had nerves and is able to feel pain like 5 years ago.

When my mom was a kid they didn’t believe that children felt pain or need Novocain for dental extractions.

It was ten years ago that article came out about white doctors thinking black people feel “less” pain than everyone else.

Babies still don’t get a local anesthetic to cut part of their penis off.

Medical acknowledgment of the ability to feel pain is directly related to your proximity to being a white adult male.

I will never stop being angry at the standard for everything being set to white adult men.

While awful, i think rates would increase if they marketed this to males. They may not care about women, but they probably don't want penis cancer or warts.

I went through this fight when the vaccine was offered to my kids. Barely 25% uptake because parents though HPV vaccine would turn their daughters into sluts. Churchie types.
