1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

Graphic content warning: This story contains information about suicide and other graphic themes

When Mark Epstein heard the news his brother Jeffrey had died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell, he thought that made sense. Jeffrey wouldn't want to spend his life locked up. He had no reason to doubt it.

"I fully expected them to come out of the autopsy saying, 'It's unfortunate, but Jeffrey committed suicide.' But that's not what happened," he told the ABC.

The independent pathologist who Mark hired to attend the autopsy believed the death looked more like a homicide. The New York deputy assistant medical examiner conducting the autopsy said she required further information before making a ruling.

100% he was killed. Public enemy #1 and all your powerful allies are paranoid you'll spill everything out of desperation? No way you're doing your time and no fucking way are you escaping and are 'still alive'. No one would take the risk harbouring someone who's lost all their power and influence, and is a liability.

[–] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 27 points 2 days ago

Exactly. At that point the only leverage he had over anyone was the secrets he held on his elite "friends". There's no reason to think he wouldn't have spilled to save his own skin, so all the more motivation for his elite "friends" to prevent that by force

I mean, Maxwell is still alive.

Sounds like she has a credible dead mans switch

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

unless the secrets were with another agency and that agency wanted to demonstrate to other operatives that they were looked after.

[–] OriginEnergySux@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Lol either way, there's no way he tied his own noose or walked out the door

[–] Zier@fedia.io 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wonder what orange psychopath had him killed??? Such a huuuuge mystery. The biggest, best mystery, like no one has ever seen before. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 11 points 2 days ago

Now now, it could have been Israel.

You won't BELIEVE what this leading expert in water wetness found out!

Sky coloration experts share AMAZING secret information.

[–] remon@ani.social 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's kind of a terrible examples for trying to point out that something is blatantly obvious. Sky colouration can go through an entire spectrum of colours depending on how much atmosphere the light is travelling through, what particles in the air and other atmospheric conditions.

[–] nothingcorporate@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

Surprising absolutely no one.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Wait? ... I thought the van came the night before and swapped the bodies? I'm so lost.

Like the examiner is right, it's definitely a homicide - but is that the REAL Jeffrey Epstein? Or Geoffrey Epstein?

[–] Nomad@infosec.pub 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It makes sense they didn't kill him in place to avoid anyone overhearing or leaving any trace of a struggle.

They likely told him they would get him out and drove in an ambulance away and took him back when he was dead and strung him up in place.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a prison guard you should really learn to keep your mouth shut

[–] Nomad@infosec.pub 2 points 2 days ago

Pretty sure all those lose ends were cleaned up a few days later.

I like the killed his body double and exported him to Israel theory. Ghislaine seems to have a double and it's not really weird for them to have considering their line if work. Everything seems within the capacity of Bill Barr and Mossad.

If Epstein isn't a total idiot he has valuable information that only he has access to. If Ghislaine simply wants Epstein that's another reason he could be alive. And then there's the deadman switch you would assume both Epstein and Maxwell have that never went off.

It really doesn't add up cleanly any way you look at it.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

"Barr, I want the Epstein problem dealt with, bada bing bada bang bada boom. You get me?"

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

[–] firelight@startrek.website 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Real talk though, do we even need Epstein?

What can he tell us that Ghislaine can't?

[–] fiat_lux@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

All of finances, the extent and details of rapes, probably murders, and I assume even more horrors. Maxwell groomed kids for Epstein and occasionally took part in the rape, but for the most part wasn't in the room, by choice. Maxwell seemed to be far more interested in just living a life of luxury.

Unfortunately Epstein was the main person who really knew each and every skeleton in all of the closets across the entire global corrupt system. The others who would probably be better informed than Maxwell, like his lawyer and accountant, are very free.

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mhhhhh without insider knowledge that’s a weird assumption to make. Behind every man…

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is it an assumption when Ghislaine is still alive?

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe her death switch is still operative or maybe she is still seen as useful. I mean why assume she’s less of a devil than her husband ? And also does it really matter? Here in Belgium we have an unfortunate experience with pedo and for each the wife / companion were as much to blame as the main perpetrators. And knew seemingly as much to matter.

[–] fiat_lux@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Because she's named in very few of the lawsuits as defendant, and all the victim testimony indicates that she primarily groomed them and occasionally participated in the rape? Because she is included in very few of the financial and political conversations in the files? If she played a bigger role, don't you think she would have featured a little more prominently in both of those categories?

You don't need insider knowledge, a solid decade of court transcripts, victim statements, and emails are right there to read.

Behind every man

Or perhaps you just prefer thought-terminating cliches.

Maxwell obviously is entirely complicit in trafficking, abuse and rape. But the eugenics, political manipulation, and money laundering were pretty clearly Epstein's bag.

Ghislaine wasn't that involved with Epstein in the 2010s. She was mostly complicit in prostitution of minors in the 90s and 00s. In the later years: Epstein upgraded (downgraded?) to Karyna Shuliak, a younger girlfriend and accomplice he imported from Belarus in the 2010s.
