Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

So how is this supposed to bring prices down again?

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 87 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

I don't know, but how's the DOW?

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 41 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Down another 500 as of today.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Does that mean we can start caring about raping children again?

Ouch. Lol. Another case of friendly fire. A self inflicted wound.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Then this country is moving in the wrong direction. Smh. Because of the Dow. /s

[–] Bonifratz@piefed.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dunno about that, but the DoW is alive and well, fulfilling its purpose.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Funny how the "peace President" needed a Department of War and a whole lot of war.

How much does a fighter jet cost? A thousand dollars?

[–] ClanOfTheOcho@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

About the same as a banana

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I knew grocery prices were bad but this is getting ridiculous.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

F-15 or bananas the choice is yours.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm sorry, we have no bananas today.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Well, you see. If Trump gets enough US soldiers killed, or as he called them, suckers and losers, there will be less demand for products and prices will go down. Checkmate, economists!

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] remon@ani.social 11 points 2 weeks ago

You know, like the F-15s.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 80 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I did the calculation and not factoring any fuel, ammo or maintenance, or the missiles that shit them down, each of these planes was worth about 7,500 years of healthcare for a single person

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

About $300 million dollars shot down.

“Oops.”

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Why would the people at the top of this circus care about a measley $300M when they can just tax the poor and cut essential social services in order to expand the military budget an extra $500B?

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

They don’t bother taxing more yet, they just print more money and drive inflation up. We still end up poorer and they get their toys.

What about the cost to train the LLM that identified the jets as targets?

You mean that if I somehow collect 350mio you know about a scheme that would keep me alive and well for 7.5k years? I see the appeal of being filthy rich now…

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

missiles that shit them down

What a terrible way to go for those planes, though. :(

Missile striking aircraft: My tax dollars in action

Aircraft being struck by missile: Also my tax dollars in action

Aircraft downed by friendly fire: My tax dollars out of action

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 weeks ago (9 children)

Holy fucking shit, the "never shot down in combat" streak of the F-15 is over?

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It's not that impressive considering it came into service after Vietnam which is the last time the US faced an enemy with a real air force and effective air defenses. Not to mention the fact that the cheaper more numerous F16 has been the real work horse (and cannon fodder) of the USAF since then.

Oh good I’m sure this will help lower the price of groceries and gas.

[–] brynden_rivers_esq@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But hey, on the plus side, that means US tax dollars will have to be spent replacing these planes and that will increase GDP!

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I am all aboard the Keynesian train, government spending stimulates the economy for sure. Could we maybe try spending the money on roads, bridges, education, healthcare, or even just a stupidly huge purposeless gigantic monument instead of engaging in fucking omnicide

[–] brynden_rivers_esq@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

lol no way bro. There's nothing more productive that an overengineered overpriced overpowered tool of destruction!

slaps roof of f-15 this baby here can fit so much omnicide in it.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Let's talk about its fuel consumption! Sixty seconds of afterburner takes more fuel that an average minivan would if it drove around the entire world.

[–] brynden_rivers_esq@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

And won't that make you feel like a MAN!? HELL yeah!

[–] hayvan@piefed.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah right and those two jets just fell off the USS Harry Truman last year, accidents happen! 🤷‍♂️

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Proper IFF and allied coordination is too woke for Petey.

Well, in bad lighting, they can look like Venezuelan fishing boats, so ...

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Great allies there. Did they forget to inform Kuwait about the action?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I'd say "call in the clowns" but we already did that.

Disgrace of a nation.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Donald Trump's fault. All of this is his fault.

[–] quinkin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

With some friendly fire, that's a funny term, like civil war.
