Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts recently endorsed taking care away from transgender adults, saying in an episode of the PBD podcast that the organization is currently "running the numbers" on the supposed correlation between gender-affirming surgeries and violence. His proposed solution? "You outlaw it."

"But where there continues to be disagreement is on what you do with adults. At Heritage, we believe that so-called transgender surgery is bad for anybody because of what you saw in Rhode Island yesterday," Roberts said, referencing the Monday mass shooting that left three people dead, including the shooter, and three others critically injured, all of whom were related to the shooter. Police have described the attack as targeted and domestic in nature.

"There does seem to be a mounting body of evidence that suggests a correlation between that surgery at any age, mental health issues, and increasingly, although we're running the numbers on this at Heritage, acts of violence," Roberts added, falsely.

Aww. Does the poor widdle baby get confused feelings about pretty girls?

I know people who have done steroids my entire life and they are against gender affirming care

They will never understand that they are getting gender affirming care. Just for a different gender

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Haircuts are gender affirming care. Clothing is gender affirming care. Glasses are gender affirming care.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago

I did Nazi that one coming.

[–] TheHighRoad@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There is a correlation between Christian indoctrination and political violence. I think we should outlaw that. Exposing your children to religion is traumatic and should be considered child abuse.

Opus Dei are quite dangerous, they even support slavery. Kevin is probably part of "the cult within the cult".

Does this ghoul go out in public? Does he expect to continue to be able to live in society, go into restaurants, rent cars, go for a walk?

This is the piece I don’t understand. Do these people not have a notion of the social contract? Do unto others? How could a person knowingly be associated with something like project 2025 and just keep on trying to exist in the public sphere?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

It's so fucking crazy that a handful of creepy weirdos have so much influence on this country, just because the Republicans hold power. I shouldn't have to care what an asshat like this "wants"; the rule of law should prevail and most people should be able to point and laugh at an unflushable turd like this.

Imagine if the Democrats worked anything at all like this. Some random scribbler with a weird personal hobbyhorse expresses what they want in relation to a marginalized group and the entire party acts on it.

It cannot be stated enough: conservatives are WEIRD FREAKS. The Republican Party: same thing.

How about they run the numbers on fat cis white guys. Then compare them.

What are those plate carriers supposed to cover?

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.wtf 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

That's a dinner plate carrier.

By his logic, if one trans person shooting folks should make all trans medicine be banned, the ridiculous amount of white male mass shooters should see all white dudes put into prison camps at birth.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago

By his logic

Nobody here is using that shit.

Logic that is.

This is meant to do what it always did, rile up stupid hicks against a manufactured enemy and provide leverage for politicians who want to succeed on the backs of a fearful mob of hicks.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Not only that, but us straight, white dudes do so many shootings that despite there really not being that many trans people they’re still under-represented. It’s not like there were only five shootings and so 20% was by a trans person, there were so many that it’s less than a percent.

It’s not just the flat numbers, but the percentages, too.

At Heritage, we believe that so-called transgender surgery is bad for anybody because of what you saw in Rhode Island yesterday," Roberts said

He conveniently doesn't mention that the shooter was also a Trump supporting Nazi.

[–] trackball_fetish@lemmy.wtf 6 points 20 hours ago

For the curious..

Dorgano at some point appeared to have a Schutzstaffel insignia tattoo with a skull on it on her right arm. In addition to the tattoo, she posted pro-Nazi content on Twitter, including stating repeatedly that being "to the right of Hitler" was a "compliment" and replying "wp" to an image of someone giving a Nazi salute.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Yes, ignoring Nazis among their movement and party is a regular feature of conservatives/Republicans.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The mass shootings are all just blending together. Which one was this?

Strong contender for Most Useful Idiot of 2026, there. Hard to see anyone topping that with only ten months left.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Preventing trans people from physically transitioning isn't going to make them not trans.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No, but they're trying to exterminate the groups. Once they're done genocide-ing the immigrants, they'll add on the other undesirables. That's why they're making the camps so big.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 day ago

Project 2025 creator needs to feel the same type of fear that he is whipping up.

[–] SayJess@piefed.blahaj.zone 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’ve been shouting from the fucking rooftops They will come after ALL trans healthcare, and indeed all other rights. No one cares. They are mostly totally ignorant of us, so they believe whatever bullshit they read.

Just like the republicans will come, and likely succeed, in overturning Obergefell.

I won’t be able to legally access healthcare, nor will I be able to marry.

Remember, all of our “activism” is because we want special rights, not the same ones that cishet white people take for granted every goddamn day.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 4 points 21 hours ago

they start with kids because they have no rights and are thus easier to oppress, and they then use that to come after the rest of us

I am a cis gender woman.

I just found out one of my prescriptions is for a drug that is also used for gender-affirming care.

It made me so angry. I didn’t know much about that kind of care. It wasn’t my business and didn’t affect me. A patients care is between them and their doctor. Now, that I actually know what is prescribed, I realize how much stupider the whole debate is.

Just let doctors do their job. If a legitimate doctor prescribes a healthy patient something, it’s not any of our god damn business. Leave trans people alone and let them live their lives.

[–] rogsson@piefed.social 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Heritage Foundation should collectively off themselves publicly.

[–] TheHighRoad@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

If anyone wants to help out in private, I won't complain.

Are they going to ban balding treatments for cismen too? That's gender affirming care.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not surprised, this is the main reason why I never said "Well I guess you should be 18 to transition", I knew gender affirming care bans were never going to be just for minors.

Trump himself gave up the game when he made 19 the minimum age for federal plans.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

it's age 25 in oklahoma, in case you were wondering where the "your brain isn't mature until 25" lie was going this whole time

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)
[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That's why I always push back on this stuff when people say it

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

I'm reminded of the TERFs who say "Oh so you're keeping the dick? Interesting..." while simultaneously making it nearly impossible to get Genital Reconstruction Surgery

They want us to transition as little as possible. Not because they think it will stop us from being trans but because it makes us easier to identify.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Of course he does. He undoubtedly wants to mass-murder trans people, too. Baby steps.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (4 children)

One of the first groups the Nazis targeted even before the night of broken glass were the LGBT. They're foaming at the mouth with rage about the LGBT, and they operate on a last-hired-first-fired basis. They'll work their way up to the Ls, Gs, and Bs eventually.

Mind your own fucking business. Why do conservatives want to dictate how people they will never know live?

[–] doug@lemmy.today 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

ok fuckhead, but make it include all gender-affirming care for everyone, trans or not.

no boner pills, no hair transplants, no leg-lengthening, no plastic surgery to change your appearance. be hypocritical more you rat fuck.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And they don’t care at all about intersex newborns being ’corrected’ to conform to whichever binary a doctor decides and totally without the person’s consent, nor infant boys having their most sensitive part cut off for 100% cosmetic reasons, again without their consent.

No, apparently consenting adults getting informed medical care is the problem.

The Heritage Foundation’s morals are completely backwards.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The Heritage Foundation’s morals are completely backwards.

we must never forget this, and act accordingly. these people have defective morals. they have no right to tell any of us what's right and wrong

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

They don't have the right, but they have enough money to bribe us on what is right.

-Republicans
