He added: “We will always be ready, willing, and able to fight for the UK, but they have to remain strong in the face of Wokeism, and other problems put before them.”

Does Trump think attacking Iran is over people being woke? Wtf is this even supposed to mean

"Woke" is basically meaningless now.

It's code for "anything I don't like or agree with"

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

it isn't meaningless, if someone is complaining about woke stuff, it tells you that they are idiotic cunts.

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Well that's mostly true but I believe that for Trump he's now just adding it into his salad because he rememebers it works for his base, just like 'Mexicans' a few years ago, but thay doesn't mean he's able to connect it to reality anymore

my point still stands, it proves he's an idiotic cunt

That was always the point. Words have power, and woke was a powerful word emerging in the early-mid US referring to awareness of racial prejudice and discrimination. The Trump admin purposely co-opted the word to use in as much bullshit as possible to make it meaningless, and take away it's power. It worked.

If you don't wanna murder innocents and colonize, you're woke and gay, NGL.

  • How do you know when Trump is lying?
  • His mouth is open.
[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Nah, he might just be sleeping through a cabinet meeting. You know he's lying when his lips are movin.

In 2022 maga lawyers working for Ron Desantis in Florida had to legally define woke:

"the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them."

So I guess Trump is saying "he'll always be ready, willing, and able to fight for the UK, but they have to remain strong in the face of the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them, and other problems put before them."

It would appear he's asking UK to ignore objective reality, and other problems.
