The latest, most advanced security against this sort of thing? Cars older than 1996.

Or better public transport.

Nah. From buying a metrocard (or whatever) with your debit/credit card to all of the security cameras, other phones, wifis, and bluetooths pinging the phone in your pocket.... Public transport is not a solution to being tracked.

And that doesn't happen with old cars? Laughable argument.

I would like to switch to an EV. But I do not want a car to spy on me and sell my data, especially to my insurerer. I don't think such a thing exists outside of EV conversions. I also dont want to spend $80k on a vehicle. Maybe the Slate when it comes out? But I'm not thrilled about the Bezos connection. Guess I'll keep driving my 19yr old gas guzzler a while longer.

Your car is spying on you

You assume I drive a modern car

I assure you my 2002 Corolla isn’t spying on me

I'm with you, my car is over 10 years old too.

Hope your 2002 can keep on rolling.

Yeah nah she’s good.

Due for an oil change but I reckon I’ll get 500k out of er no dramas

Cheers

Mine is definitely spying on me. Every time I open a door, the dome light comes on. It must know I'm nearby.

Doesn't your phone collect the same data?

[–] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not if I don't have a car. Checkmate.

Cars around can spy on others, they have cameras pointing outside.

But I assume not owning a car is better than having a car that spies, as it makes profiling harder.

If I am wrong, please correct me.
