Highly doubt this for some reason.
Mildly Interesting
This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.
This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?
Just post some stuff and don't spam.
What an idiotic article (and website in general, looks Buzzfeed-tier). From its linked source:
Negative cerebrovascular effects can be expected by compressing jugular veins and carotids
No shit.
by a necktie.
Nobody is wearing a tie that tightly, and even if it is deliberately made that tight when you put it on, it's not like a noose, it'll loosen on its own almost immediately as you start moving around. There are no springs in a tie maintaining the tension.
Mkay.
How tight are they tying them?!
Remember all those bankers, lawyers, and managers wearing ties each and every day? Now you know why they act like they do.
BTW, the tie not only reduces the oxygen supply to the brain, it also increases the risk of strokes by about 10%.
1 tentie is 75%
Growing up in the Mormon Church, I remember a time some asshole just unilaterally decided to redo my tie in a harsh knot that was too tight. Didn't ask if it was okay, just went right ahead and decided my own safe, loose knot wasn't good enough or something.
Just having a complete flashback to that because of this article. Obsession over minute details is just laughably silly when it leads to health problems.
I hope now that you're grown up you have no need of hysterical frauds like religion?
Don't tie it so tight 🤷♂️
Do people not know how to buy a proper fitting shirt and not cinch a tie too tight?
Bro my neck cannot be contained
I'm partially joking but it is impossible to get a fitted shirt for me without basically getting it made from scratch
Are you a formula 1 driver by any chance
Kingpin over here
If you don't cinch it up too tightly, it's no more constricting than buttoning the top button on the shirt. Not that wearing one makes any sense, but it's not trying to kill you, either.
Yeah, I rarely do the top button and rarely keep my tie tight. I've got it down to a science to where it looks right, but still loose, because I cannot stand stuff around my neck.
Or, rather, you do stand stuff around your neck with the right motivation.
Money is an excellent motivator.
And now let's take a look at everyone at Wallstreet, it's all ties and red faces. Probably way more than 7,5% lol
Neck ties are over. They used to be central to mens' fashion. Now if you wear one it's because you have to, which denotes low status. Like, the worst is chinos, a cheap shirt and tie, with a windbreaker instead of a blazer. Also: black sneakers. For some crazy reason, it's actually higher status to wear designer sweats around.
The look for business is slacks, a good pressed shirt, a fitted blazer with no shoulder pads, and NO TIE. Top neck button undone. It's also more comfortable. Even top execs are dressing like this. Ties are only necessary in the most formal occasions.
Don't wear sweatpants to grandma's funeral :(
Yeah, for sure. Agreed.
There are still many companies in many industries that remain business formal all the way to the tippy top. I'm sure this is changing in some sectors, even highly visible ones (like tech and finance) that may lead business fashion in that direction over time. But it isn't universal.
I haven't seen anyone in business wear a tie in decade or so. Covid really accelerated that trend too.
Just keep the last top button unbuttoned, and hide it with the knot.
I never want to wear a tie, but it's not hard to keep it just loose enough where it's not outright uncomfortable.
Fuck the Man, ditch the tie!
the only good thing about wearing a tie was the glorious fealing of pulling it down as you walked out the door at the end of the work day and unbuttoning that top collar button or two.
so THAT's the equivalent of me taking off my bra at the end of the day! Someone was asking this on Lemmy earlier.
To me oftentimes is the belt on formal days I do tie it a bit tighter than normal and it bites into my dad bod.
lol. as I was writing the response I kinda wondered if women did that walking out the door. Was just asking my wife and she mentioned liking having the ones that open in front so she could free them up a bit when she got in the car. I have not had to wear ties in a long time and it has been awhile since she has worn real ones as she went jog to camesals now.
I usually wait until I get home, but I have undone it in the car before. And the bras that fasten in the front are superior in every way.
Decorative nooses have always been a weird thing IMO. Like "gee, id like a dangling piece of fabric that, if it gets caught on something, chokes me and may pull me face first into heavy machinery"
I, for one, am a fan of bringing back the ascot. (but perhaps not during the height of the summer months.)
They come from a time when heavy machinery didn't exist. They're descended from fancy scarves.
Feels like you could say the same about any clothing/jewellery other than the bare essentials, but maybe Lemmy is the wrong audience for fashion (fuck being forced to wear ties, obviously)
I never understood why anyone would want to wear a tie. It’s a capitalist noose and at the same time also so unnecessarily dangerous.
Back in the day, people generally had fewer shirts and they were typically the same color, usually white. A tie was developed as a way to have a bit of varying color for a suit without needing as much fabric.
Because I never truly need to wear one and I like the patterns and style of the ties I own? What kind of question is this?
People just like to accessorize. Not everything is that deep lol
I get your point, I use pocket squares to accessorize but to each their own. My mental association of ties revolves around IBM staff (and similar) being forced to wear ties for no reason other than “management decision”. For me the only thing I can think of when I see a tie is the leash of the wealthy class.
Well, you don't wear them around heavy machinery. Unless court and similar settings are heavy machinery in the figurative sense.
Elevators are pretty heavy.
But idk, maybe you're like, extremely buff
Makes sense. Can't have blood flowing to the brain. That might result in independent thought, maybe even questioning management.
Having grown up Mormon; this was obvious. I could always feel my brain being choked off but would get in trouble if the tie looked loose.
Mormon, brain choked off, 🤔
My parents almost joined a Hindu cult while I was a kid. Thank goodness they found it and the people annoying so we never attended again. I have distant relatives in that cult and they're crazy people. They swap wives and do drugs and then say we're not pious and god fearing enough.
Your parents took you to a swinger party?
Ugh not in the cult. I'm trying to point out how hypocritical they are
...how do I sign up?
Every boy dressed in their Sunday best can verify that.
