The Series X is better in nearly every way. I have my Series X in the living room and then a One X near my computer. I've started bringing the Series X in here when I play. Series X has FPS boost, an SSD stock, and quick resume. I added an SSD to my One X and the Series X is still so, so much better. You mention wanting to play Forza. The Series X runs it at 60fps whereas the One X runs it at 30. For a racing game, the difference is absolutely massive.
Now, it's hard to me to recommend an Xbox at all in the year 2026. I'd probably say get a PC at this point, or a PS5 if you really wanted a console for a bluray player.
PC parts are so expensive, that's why i'm looking at these consoles. I can get a series X for the price of 32gb of ram, so that's the main reason i am thinking about getting a newer xbox. I wanted to try out some racing sims and forza seems to be the cheapest way for me to get into it as my current computers only have integrated graphics and it seems racing sims need a pretty pricey setup to run well.
Look around on your local classifieds. Anything you find there should be better than an Xbox. Put Bazzite on it and you got the console experience.
Ok, not good advice. You ignored the main questions I had. Also 4k players for PC's are fucked and have tons of issues.
When buying a console, the only question that matters is what games you want to play on it.
Xbox One X is the last generation model, so it won't run newer Xbox Series exclusives. The line between console generations is quite blurry these days, the Series line has been out for over five years and some games still get cross-generation releases, but even then you should be aware that cross-gen titles may be poorly optimized for older hardware.
If you're only looking to play games from the Xbox One era (2013-2020), those should all run great on the One X and you can save a lot of money by deliberately staying a generation behind. See !patientgamers@sh.itjust.works
But if you want to play anything newer, if you want to be future-proof going forward. Series X is the high-end current generation model for current generation games.
Imo the best thing about an XOneX is the ability to run older (Xbox/X360) games, most of the times with framerate and resolution improvements.
That gen is a bitch to emulate, and there are lots of great games stuck on the X360 that were never ported to future platforms. Games such as Ace Combat 6, Ninja Gaiden 2, Prince of Persia Reboot's DLC, etc...
Unfortunately, playing those games requires you to download (for free) the backwards compatible version of the game, and it's not clear how long MS is going to support the Xbox ecosystem.
Xbox consoles are generally not good 4k/UHD Blu-ray players. I tried using my XSX for (physical) movie watching for a while, and my experience was poor enough that I went out and bought a dedicated Panasonic player instead.
Not all discs would play in my XSX, picture was often noisy, and I ran into a fair amount of audio issues up to and including no sound at all.
If you can get a One X for $120 I'd consider that a great deal. I don't think Xbox's are particulary great for 4k blurays but if you are playing games too then its good enough.
I do have a Panasonic UB420, so i could do a comparison with a dedicated player. I did watch a video of the xbox one x vs the UB900 and honestly, it wasn't much different. What problems did you notice?
Xbox One X is still a better choice than the Xbox Series S.
Let me explain:
It has more RAM than the Series S, so Xbox One titles and backwards compatible titles will run with Xbox One X enhancements that the Series S cannot run.
It has a physical disc drive for backwards compatible titles, DVDs, Blu Rays, and 4K UHD movies. The Series S is discless.
The only downside are newer games that are exclusive to Series S/X, but really, how many are there? Cyberpunk 2077 plays on the One X.
The new Forza won't run, but the older ones should!
Source: Put the Xbox Series X and PS5 in the living room, moved the Xbox One X and PS4 to the bedroom. Still use it!
OP didn't ask about the Series S, but One X vs Series X.
One X, while better GPU and more RAM, doesn't support next gen titles (of which there are a ton of that OP specifically asked about latest Forza) it also still runs the One/One S CPU which might be why it doesn't do next gen.
Series X will impress, and more so if your display can match all the features (DV, HDR10, ALLM, VRR, 120Hz, etc)
