Personally I think it's silly to give up tools but the general argument is that electing lesser evils just gives them a veneer of legitimacy, consent of the governed and such

There are other ways. FDR knew how to be a bully when he had to without going full tyrant.
Yeah, I don't think we should be upset they didn't break the rule of law to get what they want.
Could they have fought harder and pushed back more? Certainly, but that isn't the same as doing what Trump is doing.

I am not defending Obama or Biden. Biden is a conservative. I dont know what Obamaz motivations are, but he is not an honest person.
Also the difference is it's mostly executive action and literally every single GOP member falls in line unless they are retiring so they never reign him in. Had Obama or Biden had that blind support it could have possibly been different.
Trump got that blind support by first getting populist support and leveraging it. Democrats don't court their populists, they scold them.
To be fair, Trump has a subservient congress and courts. When Biden was in the White House he had a very precarious situation in congress and was subject to the whims of centrist democrats like Joe Manchin who were much more willing to play hardball than any Republican in today's congress.
We should have known that all of that was on the table way back in 2016. This is the price that we pay by ceding so much power to Trump and the Republicans over the last decade.
Biden being an absentee President didn't help widen those Democratic margins or to keep Democratic Senators in line. Maybe Biden could have done those things 20 years prior, but he provided no party or national leadership to force things through.
The greatest failure of the 46th presidency was a total unwillingness to prosecute the planners, organizers, and executors of the January 6th insurrectionist coup attempt. But then it's overall the same set of mechanisms that couldn't be brought to bear against confederate politicians, generals, and soldiers. A few people were barred from power here and there but there was no overall systemic introspection of the failure of the 1860s. We are living in the aftermath of that failure today, and are placing ourselves at major risk to repeat all of the worst mistakes from that period
Permanent, meaningful changes or worthless executive orders that eventually get overturned? Because Biden got smacked down for trying to help with student loans and I'm certain SCOTUS would not tolerate executive changes to law enforcement or benefits or voting rights or abortion laws under a Democrat.
It would have been nice to have some rulings stacked up against executive overreach before Trump though.
The other presidents were held back by their ability to feel shame.
This shit stain has spent his entire life knowing he is an inadequate heir for his family's fortune, a failure in his studies, a failure at being a businessman, a pedophile, a rapist, a coward, a draft dodger, a conman, a disgusting incontinent slob with no sense of personal hygiene, a traitor, a pale balding man and much more. He knows it. He desperately tries to hide all of these things that make him a complete loser through mental gymnastics, projections, and accessories such as fake spray tan, industrial strength hair spray and adult diapers. He has been shitting himself in front of everyone, on TV, in front of dignitaries multiple times and didn't even bat an eye. He is either completely desensitized to shame or never had the ability to so to begin with.
He is clinging to the only thing that keeps him from facing the consequences of his actions and give him the illusion of not being a complete loser. He will do anything to keep it this way. Lying, swindling, murdering, placing incompetent, yet loyal people in key positions, blatantly disregarding legality, completely destroying the future of the nation and the world, he doesn't care. Shame will never stop him.
