Trump and team seem to prioritize vilifying victims of their immigration operations, regardless of conflicting evidence

In the moments after federal officers shot Minneapolis ICU nurse Alex Pretti dead, Trump administration figures almost immediately made public statements in press conferences, televised interviews and social media posts that were at best indifferent to the evidence available at the time and at worst completely fabricated.

A pattern is emerging, in which the Trump administration prioritizes the vilification of the dead victim as to blame for the incident over preserving the neutrality of any investigative process.

“It is nonsense and it’s lies,” said Minnesota governor Tim Walz at a press conference about six hours after the shooting. “I’m rejecting the rush to judgment within 15 minutes of this … They already will slander this individual. They’ve already made this the case, and I will just say, you will all start to see it, and some of you probably have. There’s multiple angles of this, and I’ll go back to what we talked about before. They’re telling you not to trust your eyes and ears, not to trust the facts that you’re seeing in front of them.”

"We know that they are lying, they know that they are lying, they even know that we know they are lying, we also know that they know we know they are lying too, they of course know that we certainly know they know we know they are lying too as well, but they are still lying. In our country, the lie has become not just moral category, but the pillar industry of this country."

They have to keep lying, because otherwise MAGA base might wake up to realize that they're far from safe.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

The whole point of this administration is to lie and kill as many of us as possible.

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 48 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Because they want you to know the fact that they will murder you for opposing them. They want that subtext known both by their supporters and by you. It's not an actual attempt at justification.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 16 points 6 hours ago

Exactly. They aren't hiding anything. They WANT you to know that this was a straight up murders of a guy who dared to stand in the way. It's a warning to everyone.

You know an admin official is lying when their mouth is moving.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

Did anyone think they would stop telling lies after the murder?

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 13 points 8 hours ago

They could tell me he shit his pants and died and I would still verify it with a reputable source before getting champagne out.

Kristi Noem deserves what Pretti got.

More like a jig at the end of a rope.

Whenever I see Kristi Noem after her weird glowup thing, she looks completely unhinged.

How the fuck is this news? Trump breathes air and exhales lies. What else would you expect of his underlings?

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

So you think we should shut up about it, ignore it? No, we need to call it out every time. It is news every time.

[–] CthulhuTastesLikeChicken@lemmy.world -1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

If the headline started out something like, "The latest steaming pile of shit out of the Trump administration..." What about any of this do you find newsworthy? They don't put Lindsey Graham on Meet the Press because he's known for his honesty. They do it so someone will trip over his comments and make it a fucking talking point.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Record them everywhere they go, record everything they do, report everything they do, everything they say, every lie they tell. It's all evidence. Let everyone see it and hear it and know about it. That's important not only for right now so everyone knows, but also in case we can ever have trials.

There's nothing about Meet the Press or Graham in this article so I don't why you're talking about them. The article is reporting on the lies and slander the regime's government officials are standing behind a podium and stating as official facts. People need to know they can't trust them or believe what they say.

It was just a generalization about exactly what this article is also meant to do.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 12 points 8 hours ago

Yes, that’s what they do. I don’t think I’ve heard this andmin ever tell the truth about anything.
