A 21-year old anti-ICE protester has been left permanently blinded in California after a Department of Homeland Security agent shot him in the face with a nonlethal round at point-blank range on Friday.

Kaden Rummler can be seen on video rushing to help a fellow protester at Civic Center Plaza in Santa Ana before being shot by a federal agent. He crumples to the ground in a heap, covering his face before an officer drags him away by his hoodie. Rummler’s aunt said he was left with a fractured skull and shards of plastic, glass, and metal stuck all throughout his eyes and face, and would have died if not for the six hours of surgery he went through.

“That could have cost him his life,” Jeri Rees told the Los Angeles Times. “But now, for the next six weeks, he can’t sneeze or cough because it could do a lot of damage.… The other officers were mocking him, saying, ‘You’re going to lose your eye.’”

So when are americans using this amendment they sacrificed all these children for?

[–] whitecollarcry@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Well I know these dumb fucks speak the language, so they'll understand exactly what's up when they start ending up in the same predicaments

Is this the same person that when shot BT the ice Gestapo said you're gonna be blind because he knew and did it on purpose..

[–] brachiosaurus@mander.xyz 27 points 13 hours ago

Shot with a gun bought with public money by people paid with your taxes.

Department of Homeland Terrorism

How many americans need to be killed or wounded before congress shuts down this terror organization?

Its absolutely insane that the US president is more compassionate toward iranian protestors than US ones. But I guess the US oil is already secured by US oil companies so who cares about americans when only corporations are people?

[–] Woht24@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

If Trump goes full blown dictator, never.

If he dies and a regular election takes place, I guess the end of his term.

But truly, I see the US as sitting on the brink of a rerun of the American Civil war. Instead of England, it's your own people. Rise up or be crushed.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 59 minutes ago)

The civil war was states vs states and the conflict point was slavery, with Kansas entering the union as a free state. MAGA is driven by a global media aparatus funded by extreme wealth. I think as soon as the power goes out the whole thing falls apart.

I wouldn't expect a civil war to occur until a federal wealth tax hits or a straight up coup occurs. I think democrats could kick the whole thing down the road a decade by adding puerto rico and DC as US states which can be done with just 51 votes in the senate.

[–] axx@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 hours ago

Do you see the US Democrats do something as bold as end DHS?

Also, if Trump dies, Vance takes control, which to some degree means Thiel takes control (hello Palantir!) which is arguably a lot worse.

How many americans need to be killed or wounded before congress shuts down this terror organization?

I think that question basically doesn't have an answer, since Trump's supporters don't live in the same reality. Within their bubble, that agent is a hero and Good was a terrorist or whatever. They don't know that previous administrations have managed to enforce immigration law without essentially declaring martial law, and they don't know that ICE agents are being hired with literally no getting. If they found out, they are well-trained to not care .

If you want to know when this will even begin to stop, well, the stock market is doing just fine. While that is the case, Trump can do whatever he wants.

[–] brachiosaurus@mander.xyz 7 points 13 hours ago

this terror organization?

I don't think the police will disappear anytime soon from any police state.

Its absolutely insane that the US president is more compassionate toward iranian protestors than US ones.

It's a leverage they are using to attack iran, they don't give a shit about people.

[–] NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net 12 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

At what point do they get sued for attempted murder? Considering how those "less lethal" rounds are designed to be fired at the ground to indirectly bounce at a person, and even then, only at long distances.

In close quarters they are entirely lethal.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

The federal government has to allow you to sue them first.

[–] traxex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Is this true? I have no idea how it works so I am genuinely asking. You can’t be serious right?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Nope, I'm serious.

the Supreme Court has repeatedly adopted the position that the United States may not be sued unless it consents.

There are ways around Sovereign Immunity, but it's a major hurdle.

[–] NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net 1 points 6 hours ago

Wild that the sitting president can call you a domestic terrorist off rip

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 16 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

In an email response to The Times, Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary with the Department of Homeland Security, said . . . “This was a highly coordinated campaign of violence where rioters wielded shields.”

Oh the fucking horror. How very dare those protesters cover their bodies against ICE violence.

The kid who got blinded was running to help someone else. Funny how words and acts of humanity and kindness seem to piss them off more than anything else. But that's now a "riot" and that protester is now a "rioter."

This newspeak is right up there with the couchfucker claiming Renee Good belonged to a "broad left-wing network" without so much as a clue of the word rest of us use to describe the same group: a neighborhood. Renee Good belonged to a neighborhood.

Oh the fucking humanity.

[–] axx@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

It's a classic cop tactic: raise the level of violence, then use the inevitable and justified matching rise in violence and defensive behaviour from protesters to justify more police violence.

French newspaper le Monde Diplomatique had an article some years back about this with a smoking gun type quote, from an unnamed former high ranking French police officer, along the lines of "it us, the police institutions, that set the level of violence, and we perfectly know it" (the conclusion from this officer was that therefore police should refrain from any unnecessary violence and only use absolutely necessary violence).

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Truth. Say it as often as you can, because there are people commenting here constantly urging others to protest violently. It's the worst thing we could do.

It's the same here in the US, and this is why the regime has picked Minneapolis and Portland, Oregon to begin with: because those two cities had the most violence in 2020-2023 following the killing of George Floyd. But Portland has learned, and kept their protests non-violent, which is what the judge cited as her reason for declaring the presence of the National Guard there illegal in November. It's the very first paragraph, and thereafter she calls the order illegal:

Shields are a WMD. I heard Saddam had a shield.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 18 hours ago

Someone doxx the agent please, asking for a friend.

[–] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago (3 children)

These monsters must pay. I have faith that we will come out the other side of this somehow. And there will be HELL to pay. The GOP fascists who applauded their cult leader's promises of "retribution" have yet to learn the meaning of that word. And they will be educated in spectacular fashion.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 39 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

Sadly history shows that no matter the evil, the average footsoldier does not get what's coming for them.

Look at what happened to the SS agenta. Hell just look at the Nuremberg trials. We've had the chance to eradicate fascism and went easy on them, putting bullshit "international relations" above making sure the scum of humanity with the worst of ideologies is truly gone.

Like, imagine having a beautiful garden. You look away for a moment and bam, it's full of weeds, weeds trying to kill off all the flowers and produce. Do you just pull a few weeds, trim the rest back, and call it a day?

No, you take care of ALL the weeds, and take steps to ensure they don't come back.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 1 points 14 hours ago

That I why I figure that if there is a civil war, I will shoot to kill and double tap fallen MAGA during battle, unless they offer surrender. Nuremberg only executed 210ish Nazis, despite the rank and file being the hands of evil.

This sucks. 😩

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

And then the dandelions come back anyway.

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 5 points 16 hours ago

Dandelions are your friend!

They fix hard nutrient poor soil and are entirely edible. There's even some evidence they can help with PMS symptoms when consumed.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 6 points 22 hours ago

Not if you do it right.

I'd like to have faith but I'm surrounded pacifists and people who believe voting will fix things.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who is going to make them pay? Only like 50 democrats even bothered to want to investigate ICE.

What will happen is the same old, now isn’t the time for vengeance but healing and moving forward crap.

[–] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

I feel that the only way to proceed in this world is with the faith that it will be made right. Otherwise what is the point in trying? We should all lay down and give up?

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 8 points 23 hours ago

Nobody said anything about not having faith that things will be made right. They just said not to look to Democrats to do it.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 5 points 23 hours ago

Oh I don’t argue for giving up, I argue for holding them accountable yourself instead of relying on a spineless or complicit leadership class.

This is what resistance looks like, unfortunately.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 20 points 20 hours ago

Lack of resistance looks much worse, it just takes a little longer.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 22 points 23 hours ago

Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin described the scene as “a highly coordinated campaign of violence where rioters wielded shields,” but had no comment on the use of excessive force from her agents. A spokesperson from the Santa Ana Police Department said the only coordinated violence they saw were demonstrators throwing orange cones.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

"One of ours, all of yours" ought to work both ways.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 16 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

It should not work either way.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 13 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

It has to, when it comes to fascists. Otherwise if you give them an inch, they'll shoot you three times point blank in the face.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 1 points 59 minutes ago

We've seen what Happens when you let civility and politeness take priority over accountability, and it sucks. It's provably bad morals

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 7 points 18 hours ago

And then call you a fucking bitch.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

I hope that my neighbors the ICE agents are laughing now.

Because it will make it so much better later when they are not.

My only consolation lately is knowing that I don't have to do anything to fascists as they are clearly unhappy, deceived, and creating a future that will eat their children alive. I am childless so whatever.

SO they are making the world that will murder and maim their own kids. Their own kids will in a stupid war made by many many stupid people be killed.

And they all will die. One day either at work or at home or accidentally or on purpose all of these fascist shitbags one day all will be dead and gone; replaced and forgotten; never to be breathed of again.

And even the famous ones will one cack, shit themselves, and a shared breathe of relief from their family as some day soon they will never be spoken of again.

That is the wind under my wings since January 20, 2025. The hopes that their lust for a "survival of fittest" becomes a reality for their cloven-hoofed offspring.

[–] EtherTide@aussie.zone 5 points 21 hours ago

The sins of the parent are not the sins of the child. I'm sure you said this because you are hurting unimaginably more than I am (I live several timezones away). However difficut it is, I think it's worth trying our damdest not to be pulled down into fascistic vitriol, thinking children deserve a broken life for only the blood in their veins. I oppose ICE and other similar groups around the world because their actions conflict directly and harshly with my ideals, and I sometimes start to lose sight of those very ideals when I get more and more angry at the news. I'm very glad for the few voices I've heard that remind me to look up and try to rise above my feelings, not in a "turn the other cheek, we can't stop the horrors bc red tape is our #1 priority), but just in a way that reminds of you of why your fighting, so you don't find that you've started fighting yourself.

(sorry for the text block, definitely full of comma splice errors)
