Well it could be worse. You could wake up and actually be in the US.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago

Eh, I give it a 4/10 right now. There's still some cool stuff to do and plenty of great people around, but generally, can't recommend it if you don't have to.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 21 points 16 hours ago (4 children)

I assume it's because the life in Europe is better so people don't need to escape their reality as much. You can go out and see a cool castle or ride a train or go check out a new country. And then you can get really, really, really good food that won't give you diarrhea like the food here in the US.

[–] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You misunderstand, riding trains increases the amount of shitposting capacity one has.

[–] froh42@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Wenn der Scheiß Zug kommen würde, könnte ich auch Scheißpfostieren.

What's the difference between the US and Germany?

In Germany the ICE will probably not show up at all to take you away.

[–] Vile_port_aloo@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

We just lurking, not allowed to let the government know we are here!

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

huh, the US government doesn't know lemmy exists

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

non white americans exist and enjoy good food 🤭 I encourage you to try it

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Si lo sé, soy uno de esos. Pero igual, si el gobierno no inspecciona las operaciones de los restaurantes, igual te da diarrea. Las veces que he ido a Europa he regresado en mejor condición de estómago.

[–] Starski@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Well yeah, if you only go to McDonald's or Taco Bell then you'll get diarrhea, but there's plenty of food and restaurants around the entirety of the us that has phenomenal food. However looking at your post history proves to me you don't care about facts and only about insulting people and their ideals, and seemingly everyone on the internet enjoys nothing but shitting on Americans no matter the circumstance, so I know this will fall on deaf ears.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Ouch!? You have very curious reading comprehension skills, it appears. I'm not shitting on Americans, i'm shitting on the relatively weak and ineffective governments at the local state of federal level, which tend to only serve the interests of folks with large amounts of money. I have a relatively sensitive stomach and I have been sick from all kinds of restaurants across the US.

You see, when you pay people minimum wage or less so in the case of tipped workers, their motivation to clean up and provide a great sanitary environment for everything is arguably lessened, don't you think? Further, our education system, being largely designed by large corporate interests aims to produce ignorant workers, people addicted to fast food, sugar and its derivatives. People who think food should be as cheap and fast as possible, as convenient as possible, and not worthy of sitting down and spending time, contemplating cooking it, growing it, eating with family, et cetera.

I remember walking around in Zwolle, Netherlands. I remember being embarrassed because I was the only one walking around while eating something. Everyone else sits down to eat. I never saw anyone eating in their car. Or eating while driving. I'm just saying this is illustrative of the difference between the US's fucked up food culture and the rest of the world's more mature and established food culture.

Have you ever been to Japan? Have you ever been to Europe? Have you ever been to South America? I have and I can tell you, on average, they truly respect food. Just walk through the center aisles of any American supermarket and tell me if those products suggest a culture which honors and values food? It's my humble opinion that no, not really.

If I'm full of shit and I'm doing something wrong, I am all ears and willing to do better, I promise you. You're gonna have to be real and not just throw daggers like that.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

taco bell doesn't give me diarrhea. it's not the firmest bowel movement, but it's certainly not diarrhea.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I encourage Europeans and non Americans to post things that are relevant to their lives. I'm American and post things that are relevant to my life and that I have an opinion on. I'm curious about people's opinions on things that I'm uninformed about.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Well Iranians would chime in but...

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

It is astounding to see everyone is just once again gobbling up the US regime propaganda on Iran despite knowing how much the mainsteam news lied about Palestine. Good guy trump is collectively punishing the Iranian people with crippling economic sanctions to "liberate them from their tyrannical regime"

Are people incapable of learning from anything the past two years?

The US and Israel are trying to destabilize Iran and create a civil war to make it like Syria and Lybia. This short video does a pretty good job explaining it https://www.youtube.com/shorts/52JKfb0Nl4E

My filters disagree with you.

Though I wish I could block everything that has to do with that disgraceful country but, ah well.

Or just a general "no politics" option would be nice.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

I'd be fine with "no US politics". It's so annoying that !politics@lemmy.world is specifically and only about US politics. Because apparently, US politics are the only politics relevant for the world.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago

Us poltics are and have been the biggest soap opera for YEARS. and people love their soaps.

[–] enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think Lemmy ia harder to filter. My mastodon/sharkey feed is clean from being US-centric because there's content warning feature, people use it, and people describes their image well in the alt-text. That works well with filter. Even the public federated feed i still very clean.

Lemmy however is less robust on that. My Lemmy frontend is not helping either. It does have filter feature but I don't think it works. I can't say anything on Piefed, haven't tried it at all.

[–] zen@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

How is mastodon these days?

[–] enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

depends on who you follow I guess. I always follow people who I decide I want to keep seeing their post. I don't follow famous people if they post boring stuff. I also don't follow brand account that are just posting ads lol, like software brand account, etc. I follow 516 accounts and it's feels pretty lively.

Though with that amount of following I feel like there are few accounts that got their post buried because they post less frequently.

I mostly follow few gamedev people, few FOSS & tech people, non-tech related "fedi shitposters", and history/archaeology-posting accounts. The shitpoters, gamedev, and tech are the loudest. The latter posts semi-regularly but they just don't have other people interacted with it. Though I still enjoy their posts.

conversely, I had a alt account on different instance but I don't actively follow so much account, it feels so empty. though that particular instance have some funny people so the local feed is also quite funny sometimes. So which instance to join is also matters particularly for the local feed.

But it's also that personally now I'd get slightly annoyed when totally random post appears on my timeline on Bluesky and especially Tumblr. Especially Tumblr which keeps assuming I like taylor swift.

"USA stuff" is affecting the whole world right now. You are coming to check out an English based social network for non-"USA stuff". What did you expect?
