Donald Trump has said that he does not “need international law” and that his power is limited only by his “own morality”.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Trump said the only constraint to his power as president of the US is “my own morality, my own mind”.

“It’s the only thing that can stop me,” Trump said, adding: “I’m not looking to hurt people.” He went on to concede “I do” in regards to whether his administration needed to adhere to international law, but said: “It depends on what your definition of international law is.”

Why... why did you give the keys to this motherfucker AGAIN, America? Just wanted to watch the world burn, eh?

[–] astronaut_sloth@mander.xyz 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Truthfully, it's because we have a critical mass of people who fall into at least one of three categories. They are either bigots, stupid, and/or utterly selfish. We've been on this path for a while. There's a sickness in American culture, and Trump is just a symptom of it.

[–] alsimoneau@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mostly selfishness. The US is the epitome of individualism.

[–] astronaut_sloth@mander.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

Agreed. But that also puts those people into the category of stupid unless they're also billionaires. Trump and his ilk won't do anything for the vast majority of his voters. It's plain as day to anyone who has a brain.

No, you don't understand, the only other choice was a lady....

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And don't forget the black man.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

The black man actually won, though. There are lots of people out there who voted for the black man, but viewed voting for a woman as a step too far.

Like a big neon sign that says "I am a psychopath."

Like a big neon sign that says "I am a dictator."

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

He said he was going to be one. They voted specifically for that.

alarm bells blaring and basically every republican on earth and most of democratic leadership sitting there saying, this is fine.

Exactly, there is no constraint...

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Fucking hell... he told the truth?! Mark this day on the calendar. Trump told the truth! Trump told the ^psychotic and hauntingly evil^ truth!

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

He is a narcicist with launch codes.

I'm sure he would rather destroy the world than look bad and lose power.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

He meant "mortality".

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 8 points 1 week ago

So other countries are free to just take the foreign assets of US companies for themselves? Nice. EU was looking for some data centers.

Yeah, I know it will never happen. Everyone will just keep respecting the rights of US while letting them ignore the rights of everyone else.

What an immoral king would say.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

and that his power is limited only by his “own morality".

Of which he has none.

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

So, his own morality can stop him, but he lives on the morals of corruption and "gains" over another... Here's an idea, let's poke that morality of his by making him lose personal assets, see if that shifts his opinion.

Also, "I am not looking to hurt people" sounds like a bully grabbing your hand and slapping your face with it, proclaiming "Why are you hurting yourself?" But him saying this clearly points towards having thoughts of wanting to hurt people...

His morality of sticking his penis into children.

[–] leriotdelac@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Absolutely horrible. I hope USA democratic values would withstand this shitstorm. Right now I see Trump using Putin's methods like a true fan.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So remember kids, when someone says white privilege doesn't exist, just link them to this article.

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't disagree about white privilege existence, but this article doesn't prove anything.

[–] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Trump has said out loud he believes he's going to hell. Why would anyone allow him to make this claim? I don't understand my reality, it's fucking insane.
