"There are 15 million illegal aliens," Miller said adding that "if each were given a full trial, deportations would take centuries"

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said in a video that went viral on Friday that undocumented immigrants are not entitled to due process protections when being removed from the United States, arguing that providing full legal proceedings would make deportations unworkable.

"There are 15 million illegal aliens," Miller said. "If each were given a full trial, deportations would take centuries. They had no due process entering the country, and they are not entitled to it when being removed."

Supreme Court precedent has long held that constitutional protections apply to noncitizens within U.S. territory. In Wong Wing v. United States (1896), the Court ruled that the Fifth Amendment's due process clause protects noncitizens from arbitrary detention or punishment.

Actually, a lot of them being kicked out now are being pulled from their court dates, so they are following due process.

This scumbag should die in a jail cell.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Not to mention the ones they are simply cancelling their visas and other legal arrangements and then arresting and deporting. Steven Miller is white supremacist scum and should be tried for crimes against humanity.

He doesn't believe in due process for anyone else, why should he get the same benefit? Stephen Miller murdered a child, and should be summarily deported from life. He didn't use due process to murder the child, so he shouldn't get due process to avoid the death penalty. No trial, just a hangin'.

Once you surrender your humanity it's very difficult to get it back. Behaving like they do, you'll become just as awful as they are. I'm not one to believe in the Democrats playing fair while the Republicans do whatever the fuck they want. I certainly think the Democrats, or any liberals that are in Congress, need to step up and use the rules that exist just as strongly as the Republicans have. But if we start ignoring the rule of law the way they are it no longer becomes relevant and we live not in a democracy but in a state of anarchic totalitarianism.

I want him to be publicly executed. Ideally by due process but I'm increasingly ok with by mob

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 13 points 6 days ago

This dude just lives in his own hateful reality.

if each were given a full trial, deportations would take centuries

Yeah, that's kind of the point. You don't deport people out of spite or because it serves your agenda.

They had no due process entering the country, and they are not entitled to it when being removed.

Whatever that means. I'm not a scholar in matters of law, but I guess that Miller's opinion is as valuable as single ply toilet paper.

Ah, the land of the free welcoming the tired, heartbroken and poor huddled masses yearning for that freedom?

You didn't have due process to be born Stephen, so you don't deserve it when we put your neck in a guillotine.

I'd prefer slowly lowering him into a wood chipper, feet first. After we feed him a ton of adrenaline so he can't pass out.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Wood chipper! Wood chipper! Wood chipper! We throw a list of these cronies into the chipper on live tv things will change really quick

Nah go dangle first

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 26 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Nah, he deserves a much more ironic punishment more suited to make him miserable.

He deserves to be forced to afford rent on minimum wage in an inner city surrounded by the people he hates.

That means they can remove anyone without due process...

They could say literally anyone didn't come in the country legally, and "due process" is where people can prove they should be here

This is the same as when people would drown women, and if died she wasn't a witch so everyone would celebrate even tho they just killed an innocent.

No regard for false positives.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 week ago

Fascists don't believe in due process, they believe in whims enforced at gunpoint.

[–] termaxima@slrpnk.net 79 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Due process isn't something you "deserve". You are entitled to it, regardless of any circumstance. The process is due to you. It is your unalienable right.

You need due process to even know if they are illegal aliens. They just want to deport people without checking.

I'm sick of people trying to gaslight us into thinking ICE is only going after illegal immigrants and that they just want people to follow legal processes to come in. They're arresting people at courthouses, in the midst of following the legal process to immigrate

[–] wide_eyed_stupid@lemmy.world 24 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

They're also arresting Americans and then claiming afterwards that their birth certificates are fake.

And people need to get this through their heads: If illegal immigrants have no right to due process, then NOBODY has the right to due process, because how are you going to prove you're a citizen without due process?

This guy basically just said he doesn't care what the constitution says, he's going to do whatever he wants anyway.

I sure wish the idiots on the right would get riled up over literally anything besides the 2nd amendment.

Openly admitting to violating the civil rights of millions will come in handy for those of us who will hold you accountable.

Yes, and you didn't have due process when you turned left without signaling, so now you don't get to go to a judge and say the cop was lying.

It all makes so much sense now!

Dumbass.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

Oh geez, using that logic, no criminal used due process to murder, rape, steal, so they can't be charged.

Stephen Miller is truly the Chief of Staff we deserve.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I think he should have been aggressively bullied more.
