I was a former conservative, and before that a proto-alt-righter (except it was called national radicalism, á la Jobbik and MIÉP of Hungary), and even back then I was spooked to stay longer than needed with some early overblown harassment campaigns (which were sometimes manipulated by the right even back then), so I know how scary is to leave it all behind.
