I've always found it remarkable that religious people think they need the help of their god in order to keep promises.

According to their own beliefs, the threat of eternal punishment in Hell is the ONLY THING stopping them from being raping, murdering, pyromaniac, baby-eating monsters. They can't comprehend how anyone else can be decent human beings without the threat of damnation looming over them to keep them from becoming the abominations they really are.
