If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

How is this for cool?!? Long-time International Festival of Owls volunteer Jody Hauser needed to get a prosthetic leg and was allowed to design the graphics for it. If you're going to have a prosthetic leg, it may as well look awesome!

Bonus points if it's got talons at the bottom! 😁

So a few weeks ago, I am leaving Walmart and I see what I thought was a cool tattoo out of the corner of my eye and I turned to the person beginning to say "Whoa, nice tat" before I noticed it was actually a prosthetic leg, so instead said "Whoa! Nice... leg!"

It seems like a positive thing to embrace it and make it a real part of themselves by decorating it. I feel I'd do the same.

Did they take your comment positively?

Got a laugh and a "thank you" from 'em. 😃

That's shitting cool. I wonder if you could get it as a wrap or something so you could change it day to day to match your clothes.

I was thinking the same thing! It would be cool to change it out seasonally or as the mood fits.

the lack of shadow in the first image makes it look like a bad Photoshop Amazon product picture.

I see it now.

I dunno. The IOC hasn't misled me on anything yet.

oh I fully believe it's real. the shoes match and the 2nd photo confirms it. I was just commenting on the unusual lighting.
