Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

Putin wouldn't go anywhere near the front, let alone an active war zone.

What a boss.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 160 points 3 days ago (3 children)

So fucking badass.

Slava Ukraini!

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 88 points 3 days ago (7 children)

Our generations Churchill.

Fighting nazis might have been his only redeeming quality. I like Zelensky better.

[–] deHaga@feddit.uk 8 points 3 days ago

That and helping create the welfare state and the UN

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I need ammo, not a ride

russian warship, go fuck yourself

They sure show the world pride, strength and resilience and teach us a couple of baddass one-liners while they are at it

[–] harcesz@szmer.info 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Theres a lot of this, like this chad or that lovely lady. Ukrainians are witty as fuck, with dark slavic humor turned up to 11.

And they've been this way for quite some time: Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks

Can't wait for the biopic. He'll probably star as himself and do all his own stunts!

Churchill like most of his time, was a racist prick. Zelensky on the other hand...pure gold so far!

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I'm more so suggesting it because Churchill stood for stopping Nazis and fascist. Zelensky is the same, just better.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

For real.

Alone his living and actions have inspired me!!

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (5 children)

And he's a comedian, didn't rise through the military.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

Maybe Putin should come and visit Kupiansk if he wants to prove him wrong.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He’s run out of lookalikes. Had to send them to the front.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I love soviet era political jokes. This one has that quality. πŸ˜šπŸ‘Œ

[–] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

In America there is free speech and you can always find a politician's lookalike. In soviet Russia, politician lookalike find you!
In Putin's Russia? Ehhhh... Dead, all dead. All of them dead. On frontline. Dead lookalikes everywhere. Terrible tragedy.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

He'll just repeat the same bullshit about "inviting journalists", the man's allergic to going outside

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

You won't even know which hidey-hole he's in right now.

Balls of Steel

A Guy with huge Cochones!

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

Well, there is putin in his bunker sitting at a table at 5 meters safety distance from his staff .... And there is Zelenskyy, near/at the frontline with his men. Does not blink an eye with shots in the background. I'm sure he has shortcomings too, but i have got nothing but respect for the man. This guy has earned a significant place in the worlds history.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 22 points 3 days ago

I think the point of this is that cojones were not even required to disprove yet another Russian lie.

[–] _Nico198X_@europe.pub 12 points 3 days ago

Greatest leader of the 21st century

[–] dontsayaword@piefed.social 39 points 3 days ago (10 children)

Was there a giant mirror out there?

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 63 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Someone took a photo of him taking a selfie. They have all been deceived for a second picture was made.

[–] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But who took the photo of the second guy?!

Did they "drone-proof" this whole street?

[–] Kissaki@feddit.org 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That's what they do, yes. Unfortunately, it's not fully drone-proof.

/edit: You can see it in this video, if you're interested

The amount of optic fiber cables from drone use spread across fields is insane.

[–] saimen@feddit.org 3 points 3 days ago

I don't like this episode of drone wars

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 7 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Can’t see it because I have i.redd.it blocked. I’m really confused why images from that domain are constantly embedded on Lemmy.

[–] Aatube@thriv.social 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (9 children)

it's since people are manually crossposting from reddit; not sure why you'd block an image domain tbh

Nobody said it was going to be easy, fighting the corporate web.

But seriously: That's only their image server. You can safely unblock it. Of course you're still giving them your IP. If that bothers you I refer you back to the top of this comment.
