I get why suicides have increased since covid, and now with what our governments are up to, but what happened in 2018 that caused such a high spike in suicides? I googled it and reports of a spike in 2018 come up, but none of the articles offer any attempt to explain the increase.

Personal observation with zero research: the 2018 spike among males may be correlated with the takeoff of the #metoo movement.
