Don't forget that Stormtroopers are not precise at all in their shot grouping.

The left side is wrong here - they are about the same accuracy, but differ in precision. Accuracy is about average placement being correct. Top left is all over the place, but evenly so. It's not pulling off to a side like top right is.

I am normally good at suspension of disbelief, but even as a kid this one was hard for me. The storm troopers never showed themselves as particularly precise shooters. The sandpeople seemed above average in comparison. The shots on the sand crawler were frankly all over the place. No non-verbal evidence for his claim whatsoever.

I always took it as more of the organized nature of the assault, not literal accuracy. Like there's an obvious difference between a gang rolling up on you and a SEAL team assaulting a place.

Either way, the result is a bunch of dead Jawas.

I know, I watched it in the 80s, then 90s re-release, then about a year ago with my 7 y/o.

I’d completely forgotten about all the dead Jawas somehow.

It's also funny that one of the ongoing gags of the entire films series is just how terribly they shoot at everything .... especially at the main cast.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

At least originally, I don't think it's a gag. It's just plot armor. It's not like it's exclusive to Star Wars. There are so many movies where the main character(s) are running away from gunfire and the bullets just impact all around them but never hit. It just becomes a lot more obvious when you talk about how accurate they are, and then have them fire glowing lasers.

Some of the books even explain the “circumstances” of why they missed or certain doors closed or open at specific times. People having a change of heart, the right agent in the right place, someone just happens to see something on a video and open that door. Silly stuff like that.

I always thought it was Jedi sarcasm. It has damage all over, not in just a couple of key areas.

Maybe he was being sarcastic

TBF, none of them hit Anakin, Not Just the Men, but the Women and Children Too

[–] CobblerScholar@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Some of the best trained soldiers in the galaxy, sent after the biggest security breach of the war, stationed at the most important military asset in the Empire, can't hit a naive basically untrained 19 year old kid and his sister to save their damn life

A common interpretation is that it's a deliberate strategy by Tarkin to let them escape and then track them. Leia even says it out loud in the film: "They let us go. It was the only reason for the ease of our escape."

The Stormtroopers were sent by Vader, to recover the droids. Leia was referring to the escape of the ~~Ebon Hawk~~ Millennium Falcon from the Deathstar.

Ebon Hawk

Friend you're about 4000 years early on that one.
