But somehow his money will still be extremely relevant.

The billionaires are not going to save us from the billionaires. If we get AGI they absolutely won't roll it out to the masses, they'll keep it a secret and just use it within their own businesses.

[–] mech@feddit.org 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

only for the billionaires who own the AI though.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 hours ago

hes probably trying to get that 1trillion just to prop up his XAI company, it must losing tons of money from operating datacenters.

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

Will even Elons money be irrelevant?

[–] Zier@fedia.io 4 points 2 hours ago

elon is a junkie.

[–] HarmlessCake@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 4 hours ago

So communism? I assume the richest man in the world has no interest in the money going worthless. Only talk promising impossible things to leave the AI bubble alive

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, take the delusional nazi drug addict's word for it!

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 58 minutes ago

He makes Nazis look bad.

[–] Ep1cFac3pa1m@lemmy.world 61 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Nobody with all the money is going to willingly make money irrelevant, unless they can preserve their power in some other fashion.

They hoard bullets, water, guzzolene, and mother's milk

[–] skvlp@lemmy.wtf 41 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

If that is true, then why demand obscene payment packages?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

But, but, it's worth nothing!!

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 42 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

It's possible, but not with jackasses like Elon in charge.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago

It's not possible because the people who have the power to make that happen would never let it happen. I don't care who they are.

"Societal and technological advancements need to go hand in hand"

  • Kelly from The Orville

I think computers are a good [current] example of when tech got ahead of society. Especially the Internet but moreso the ability to make complex systems that don't require as much direct human interaction.

Says man trying to set a new record for person with the most of it...

“It’s much harder to grow vegetables in your backyard, but some people still do it because they like growing vegetables,” Musk added.

The world’s richest man, ladies and gentlemen.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Having a backyard or any space to grow plants is a privilege many don't have, besides the fact that vegetables don't like extreme climates

Then just do it in your greenhouse. If you don't have one, ask your help to build one.

[–] pyria@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 10 hours ago

That is so right up there with some of the scummiest things CEOs have ever said.

The Heinz CEO tells us to "get used to it" about inflation.

And then Nestle over there, saying about how water is not a human right.

These rich fuckheads totally operate on a different world than our own.

[–] verdi@feddit.org 17 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Elon Musk is a fucking idiot.

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

Yeah, where’s this headline?

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 19 points 10 hours ago

Excellent. I'll text you my IBAN so you can transfer me some of your irrelevant money.

[–] Foni@lemmy.zip 13 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

This guy was going to put a man on Mars by 2015 and make the hyperloop the next big thing; with the latter, he prevented investment in trains in the USA. After hearing this, I can only recommend that you join a union; you're going to need it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 2 hours ago

the hyperloop was twofold, it delayed californias fast rail long enough for trump and ELAINE chao to block the funding.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 13 points 10 hours ago

That's only because money is already irrelevant to him.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

We need a New New Deal to get anywhere near that. First we're going to experience mass unemployment for about a year. Then after people have been severely pissed off with no opportunities for a couple months, then things will actually start changing.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

People have been talking about "post scarcity" since forever.

Yes, in the far distant future people will be able to have things they need and not have to work. AI will also exist in that future.

However, I don't think anyone believes that future will arrive in the next decade.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The future is already here. It's just unevenly distributed.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 10 hours ago

"The Future is Now!"

also:

"We went too far."

[–] pyria@kbin.melroy.org 1 points 10 hours ago

The issue is that, UBI is a contested subject. It is the answer to what's happening with automation.

And nobody is touching it but lets continue giving these few people all the money in the world and little leftover for everyone to fight over.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 10 hours ago

If money is going to be irrelevant, then he should give his all away right now. Get ahead of that curve.

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 hours ago

What a dumbass.

[–] Boozilla@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

The last guy we want promoting good things. He will curse them with his waxy Elder Things notions.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

He probably means for anyone with at least 100 million in wealth. Everyone else just doesn't matter to him.

[–] Modest_Toxic@feddit.uk 3 points 10 hours ago

Pure genius from the almighty himself! I'll quit my job now while I'm ahead (not on my mortgage). /s
