Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Additional path: accept the default presets because i will be using helms
I always wear helms, but I still mash randomize to get a fugly face like is pictured on the right
Try really hard for a while, get frustrated, hit randomize a bunch until I get something that doesn't look terrible, and then (like the other commenter) change the hair and call it a day
This is almost exactly my process these days too.
All sliders to middle. Moustache. Receding hairline.
Generic. Average. Godslayer. Neutral.
I feel like attractive people don't really fit in the the usually spooky and twisted worlds of the soulslike games. I normally go for an ugly character, but not one that's hilarious looking like on the right here.
Half of the NPCs in From's games are secretly good-looking but never take their helmets off
I usually try to make the character look like myself - both in soulslikes that allow for character creation as well as any other game that does. In BG3, I ended up going for a draugh (?) and without a beard but still bald. In Bloodborne, I went for bald and glasses but no beard. Always something missing from how I look like irl, I realise lol
I think the last time I tried to create myself was the Mii character creator?
I always go for something different, usually the character ends up looking androgynous or very rarely has a beard (beards usually look either bad in 3D games and/or clip through clothing).
mine looks like mike ehrmantraut

Nobody can see my face most of the time anyway so I either don't even touch the default appearance or I hit similar face until it's the most disgusting thing possible and make my skin tone some bright neon color.
At least Elden Ring doesn't severely punish you for not filling an armor slot like every other game does, so there's a greater chance of not wearing any head piece unless the build can utilize one of the hats that buffs a stat.
Left path, nice looking. On my first playthrough, I usually start with a modified preset, different hair and eye color, and then I jump right into the game. That's the thing I actually want to play, you know?
On subsequent playthroughs? I usually modify sliders created by others. I find Fromsoft's character creators to be quite clunky.
I also frequently use modified sliders made by Fromsoft for the NPCs

Try to go left for a minute until I realise I'll be looking at the back of the head most of the game anyway.
Tried to replicate myself once and got pretty close , I made the effort on good looking characters like twice, but now I grab a preset and just change the hair to spice things up
I am pleased to discover that Monster Factory is still going strong on YouTube.
a actually 😬
