Bill will force release of documents related to late pedophile after Trump and allies backed down from opposition

The US House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a bill with nearly unanimous support that will force the release of investigative files related to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after Donald Trump and his Republican allies backed down from their opposition amid a scandal that has dogged the president since his return to the White House.

The Epstein case returned dramatically to the public eye in July, when the justice department and FBI released a memo saying they had nothing further to disclose about the investigation. That flew in the face of statements made by Trump and his top officials that indicated they would release more information about Epstein’s offenses and ties to global elites once they took office.

Shortly after, four dissident Republicans in the House and all Democrats banded together to force a vote on a bill to release the investigative files, over Johnson’s objections.

Cool, but I won't trust that the files haven't been edited while in custody of the current US regime

I'd bet the catch is they've spent the whole time they were delaying on redacting all the Republicans and their donors names, leaving only Democrats and unimportant people.

Just the other day Donald was saying "it's all Democrats in there anyway" when he said Republicans should vote to release them.

Its funny that they don't understand/care his opponents also want to purge some problematic members of the democrat party, like that somehow hurts them rather than gain them more support.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

redacted trump and any gop affiliate in the files no doubt.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I believe they can refuse to release files related to an ongoing investigation - like the one he just had bondi open on Clinton, etc.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

“Aw bummer, but we totally voted for it!”

— Every republican but that one from Louisiana

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Too bad he didn't tell them to investigate Trump then!

[–] ignirtoq@feddit.online 17 points 1 day ago

One catch is that they are only forced to release "unclassified" files. Guess who decides what files are classified?

[–] rozodru@pie.andmc.ca 12 points 1 day ago

they've already revealed the catch. it's been edited to remove any names that would hurt republicans. i.e. trump and friends.

Near unanimous

No fucking way they're getting released then. At least not the real docs. They sit with their thumbs up their assess while Trump dismantles every executive institution but they somehow snap back to reality when mostly Democrats find the bare minimum support to force a vote?

[–] theredknight@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lol I bet they had chatgpt remove Trump. Can't wait until the original prompts are at the bottom..

"How is that for removing Trump from the Epstein files? I changed it so he didn't blow Bubba just like you said!"

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 12 points 1 day ago

All instances of Trump changed to “Let’s Go Brandon”

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Trump is now behind the move. Odd, once he changed his mind he could have avoided the circus, remained in control and just ordered the DoJ to release them.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's behind it because he's desperate to control the narrative. Watch it shift down the line in a few weeks to "Trump always wanted the files released but it was the dirty Biden-era DoJ/FBI/[insert random alphabet org here] people who blocked it".

Also do make note of the Epstein file tracker site that's been floating around, before the release. Trump, last I checked (and they're still going through the 20k dump from last week) was at 59 mentions. I'll bet good money that tons of Trump mentions will be struck out, redacted, or plain simple held back from release, while others - especially Democrats - will be represented at an overwhelmingly increased rate compared to previous releases.

Remember, Trump had months to doctor these files, and while most of the Grand Ole Paedos in the House and Senate might be trying to save their own arses now, the orange shitsack did pick a bunch of hardcore loyalists to lead key departments/organisations where they would have direct access to doctor the files... at this point, they will twist the release into something beneficial to them.

Exactly.

Got a link to that site?

[–] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

Is it just control for just long enough to destroy the worst of it? Or is trump in damage control and would rather be a pedo than have any insinuation of gayness, the very thing his base has been made least tolerant of?

Will be interesting to see... I hate interesting times...

I'm gonna be real, I dont care about the truth anymore. I want the motherfuckers that sent us into this information age overstimulation hellhole to die. I want to be as far away from the now as possible.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I care about anyone involved in sex trafficking being prosecuted. Only enemies of Trump will be under the current regime, of course, but it's a start.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

We will never pull out of this information death spiral. Which makes everything, including sex trafficking, far worse. Never again will there be consensus reality.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 21 hours ago

True. I've just had to accept that there is a very large percentage of the population who believes a false narrative and work around them as best I can.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Who is the one holdout who has now outed themselves as most likely being in the files?

Edit: Clay Higgins. It was the next post down in my feed after this one.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everyone is positive that trump is trying to withold the epstein files because it would expose him as being in them. Everyones making jokes that his fear is being assosiated with epstein.

Well.......I kinda don't think trump gives a shit about that. I think there's other stuff, like trump giving bill a bj. Things that he enjoys, but is in the closet about because it would embarass him.

Also, protecting all his OTHER buddies that are on that list. It's obvious trump is on that list. Trump knows its obvious. But he's still acting like the public can't find out.

That tells me there's more than just "trump is in the files".

I fully expect when the files are released, he'll be in there. The public will think they got the full files. Then he'll pardon himself, and no one will be the wiser.

My guess is, with his ties to both entertainment worlds, and political worlds, there's a LOT of people in those files that right now the world doesn't suspect at all.

I don't think anyone expects an unredacted copy to come out of this. It's just more theater.

When you’re a foreigner and the first thing that comes to mind when you read “House” without context is the doctor, these headlines hit differently.

[–] RudeOnTuesdays@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Headline: Near unanimous support

Article: ...four dissent Republicans

So slightly over 50% is near unanimous?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The final vote was 427:1. Almost all Republicans voted for the discharge petition.

[–] RudeOnTuesdays@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh okay. I got confused reading the article then.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 19 points 1 day ago

Yeah, 4 republicans crossed the aisle to sign the discharge petition with every democrat and force the vote. Once they did that, nearly every republican voted with the democrats in favor of the bill. Because a vote against it would be a vote to protect pedophiles and even MAGA voters can't twist themselves into enough of a pretzel to vote for a representative who does that.
