For French that's correct until you start talking about different sized rocks. Regular rocks are feminine, but boulders and pebbles are both masculine.

Камень is masculine in Russian

Perhaps it refers to скала? I know камень and скала mean different things, but both are loosely "rock" in English.

Скала is more equivalent to cliff. A cliff is made out of rock, but it's not a rock
