For French that's correct until you start talking about different sized rocks. Regular rocks are feminine, but boulders and pebbles are both masculine.

Perhaps it refers to скала? I know камень and скала mean different things, but both are loosely "rock" in English.
Скала is more equivalent to cliff. A cliff is made out of rock, but it's not a rock
Does that word not have any feminine equivalents? If not, how do Russian rocks reproduce?
