They've had this issue so long, but they don't care because of perverse incentives. It's better for them this way, financially.

Yeah, the doppelgänger issue has been popping up more often random duplicate artists or tracks showing up because Spotify’s metadata system sometimes mixes profiles. It’s mostly a catalog management problem on their end, not anything users can fix. It can be frustrating when you follow an artist and get someone completely different. Hopefully Spotify cleans it up soon because it definitely hurts the listening experience.
